Lachey says he'll throw out first pitch

Pencil pop star Nick Lachey into the lineup for Cincinnati Reds Opening Day.
The 1992 School for Creative & Performing Arts graduate says he will throw out the ceremonial first pitch April 6 before the Reds play the New York Mets.
“Anybody who grew up in Cincinnati knows this is one of the biggest honors you can get,” says Lachey, 35, the former College Hill resident.
Hamilton County Commissioner Todd Portune did the honor last year, while Mayor Mark Mallory became an overnight sensation in 2007 for his errant toss nowhere near home plate.
“Hopefully I won’t embarrass myself like our good mayor,” says Lachey, a huge Reds, Bengals and University of Cincinnati sports fan. He watched the Bob Huggins homecoming ceremony before the UC-West Virginia basketball game on ESPN Thursday from his Los Angeles home.
“I was thrilled to see Huggs get such a great response from the crowd,” he says.
Lachey, who starred in MTV’s “Newlyweds” with then wife Jessica Simpson, is a creator and executive producer for MTV’s new reality show being filmed at SCPA. Called “Taking the Stage,” it premieres 10 p.m. March 19.
MTV is shooting 10 one-hour episodes here, at Lachey’s urging.

Nick Lachey’s opinion on NFL football is important.
SOURCE
By Benjamin
The name of the show in question is the “The Sirius Blitz” and is meant to be dedicated to football conversation and opinions. It was an entertaining episode with several good arguments about various NFL teams. However, I could not believe my ears when it was announced that Nick Lachey was joining them in the studio.
First and foremost, I am not going to listen anything that Lachey has to say after he disrespected my Alma mater by singing “Hail to the Victors” in Ohio State’s stadium during College Gameday. That episode of College Gameday was Ohio State vs. Texas, therefore not warranting even speaking about University of Michigan let alone a display like that. The fact that he has or had a job on ESPN with no formal journalism training OR history playing sports at the collegiate or professional levels is a ridiculous.
So as I try to lower my blood pressure with deep breathes, I keep listening the station. As their conversation wore on, I started to notice that he spent five minutes discussing his upcoming album instead of football. I don’t really care how slow the tempo on his new album is or if Troy Polamalu might not want to listen to it! This channel is about football and that is what I expect. I am not sure who Lachey’s record company is but someone is getting some major kickbacks.
Alright, finally they were speaking about football. Nick starts talking about how it is so difficult to fly back to LA after every home game loss. According to Lachey, he owns a suite at Paul Brown stadium and flies back to every Bengal home game. I do understand the pain of watching your beloved team continually shoot themselves in the foot, as I am a serious fan of the Cleveland Browns.
Later they ask him about his favorite college team, the USC Trojans, and want to know his opinion on who will be drafted to the NFL this year. How you can grow up in Cincinnati, Ohio and be such a big fan of USC is beyond me, but should be discussed in another post. I just don’t understand what makes his opinion valuable enough to make him a guest on a satellite radio show.
Then I thought about another example of another record company celebrity getting press for his sports predictions. In the beginning of the NFL playoffs, there were several news clips that held Lil’ Wayne’s predictions for the winners as well as other sports commentary. Maybe this is just the way sports reporting is going, where there is less emphasis on the expert and more on the individuals and random celebrities. Actually, a website named waitingfornextyear.com has all but replaced ESPN’s and Sports Illustrated’s websites for all of my updates on the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
In that case, maybe I should be less angry at hearing Nick Lachey on the radio, because that has opened up the door for my voice in sports. Now I am not saying that I am as famous as Nick Lachey, and definitely not that I am as famous as superstar Lil’ Wayne. But it seems as though the internet has given anyone a voice for their humble opinions, and I plan on starting to use my voice.
Thank you Nick Lachey. You have prompted me to write this article and make my best attempt at sharing my sports opinions on the internet.

Nick Lachey's soundtrack to his life! *Fan Encounter*
SOURCE
First I would just like to say how excited I am that One Tree Hill got picked up for season 7!!!! And Gossip Girl <3 and 90210!! I hope I can go to Wilmy again and I would love to see GG filming in NYC. YAY :D
Wednesday last week I got a call from Kiss108, the radio station in Boston, and they told me that I had won the “Ask Nick Lachey A Question Contest.” Nick was going to be in the studio on Friday morning to film the interview and we weren’t supposed to wear green.
Friday I drove myself up to the station in Medford, maybe getting a little lost in Medford b/c my GPS wanted me to take a right where it said “no rights.” So I pulled over, looked up the directions on my iphone and went towards Everett and completely ignored the GPS and needless to say found the station myself. Anyway, there were 5 other people who won and two people had brought someone with them. I filled out my paperwork to acknowledge that I won (my first time picking up a winning from a station). I won Britney Spears tickets in like 8th grade, but my mom had to get them and I won a $25 iTunes card, but wasn’t going to drive to Medford to get it.
So the interns brought us downstairs at like 11:05. By the way, I got there at like 10:56 after my GPS was being annoying. I was so afraid that I was going to be late. We were in a room in the web department with the cameras, a green screen and computers. I was picked to be the second person to ask my question, so I got my microphone on right away. They only had two wireless mics to we had to share. Nick did his interview with Romeo and then came down to see us. Just so you are not mistaken about it, Nick Lachey is SO Gorgeous in person. I mean yes, I knew he was and yes I have seen him in concert a few times, but sitting next to him…
We had our questions prescreened, so he knew them, but he still made like he was thinking. I asked, “If you were making a soundtrack to your life, what would be your top 5 tracks?” I think it was a good question and inventive, but I wish now I asked him something about being on One Tree Hill! That would have been even cooler. He filmed his scene or scenes this week in Wilmington. I knew he was going to be on, but I didn’t even think about it until I came home and read that he was filming this week. I think his funniest answer to my question was, “Beat It” by Michael Jackson, which he said he wouldn’t elaborate on.
After the interviews Nick filmed some web promo clips and then did a segment for the website called “108 Seconds.” He answered one word answers to a bunch of random questions like: “Favorite holiday? Favorite cereal? Funniest text in your inbox?” One was his favorite boyband and he just stopped. The guy was like, “We all know what you’re going to say, just say it.” So Nick said BBMak, but then he said 98 Degrees (which they used). For favorite holiday he said “Christmas…Thanksgiving” and made a face. They guy said, “That was funny, we’ll us that (which they did).
Nick did individual pictures before he left b/c the girl who I think was his publicist said individuals were fine. He had done the Mix 98.5 Lounge that morning and they did group pictures. Two of the girls at Kiss had gone to that too. I’m glad my picture came out cute! My video is a little corny lol, maybe I just don’t like to see myself on the screen, but it really was all good.
Overall, it was pretty awesome! Nick was SO nice, funny and attractive!! It was cool to see how they do things in radio! My first experience with a wireless mic lol!
I would not mind getting to meet Nicholas Scott Lachey again :D
XOXO

Random Nick Siteing in North Carolina
SOURCE
So sleepy lately. A bit of random celebrity sighting today. A few minutes after I got into work this morning around 5am, this guy comes off the elevator and goes to the front desk, and my ears perk up like "I know that voice.." and the dude then walks towards the doors (about 45 feet away from my little cafe) and I'm looking at him like "Is that......?" and I'm trying to get a good look without blatantly staring (because that's rude), and eventually he walked out to leave or whatever. The security guard walks over to me and goes "Was that Nick Lachey?" and I was like "That's what I thought!" apparently, he was in town filming a guest spot on One Tree Hill. That's pretty much the only perk to working in a hotel at 5 in the morning, it's when all the "stars" check out. I always seem to find that the guys are always shorter than they seem and the girls are always way skinnier. He couldn't have been taller than 5'10". *shrugs* like I said, random.

Sharpie goes Hollywood with its new stainless steel marker *JEFF*
The celebs came out in droves to ogle the new Sharpie. SS Sharpie was the belle of the ball, despite the $30,000 watches and fancy-pants jewelry and serious hi-tech gadgets available for the taking.
I know it’s a tough job but somebody’s gotta do it… Meredith, Niky and I (you can see us slaving away in the photo ahead) humbly offered our services to (wo)man the gifting suite and make nice with the celebs. We earned our stripes - stripes meaning a few blisters and sore throats as we talked up the new stainless steel Sharpie with its refillable cartridge, etched logo on the barrel and super cool “markerability.” The great thing about Sharpie is you never have to explain yourself - everybody knows Sharpie. And celebs are not immune to Sharpie’s charms - they collect and covet them just like the rest of us crazy Sharpie fanatics.
Anyway, here’s a sneak peak of some of the action — just a few of the celebs that stopped by to check out the new stainless steel Sharpie. We’ll have more pics once the big media giants (currently reviewing them for publication) release them back into our custody.
Enjoy!

Nick Lachey Performs at The Colonnade Hotel
February 20, 2009
The Colonnade Hotel. He performed 4 songs including “Patience” from his new album Coming Up for Air debuting in May 2009. Affable, self-effacing and a genuine are all good words to describe Nick and are all too uncommon in show business. He took the time to sign autographs and take photos for everyone in the room (100+ lucky attendees).makes a guest appearance for the Mix Lounge series at
The funniest part of the day was the question and answer session. A nine year old guest asked him a question he had never heard before “Did you have your tonsils taken out?”.
Nick had some nice words to say about Boston and the hotel. We’re grateful to host him and hope he returns soon. Trust us - if the single is anything like the rest of the album, it’s sure to be a massive hit.

SCPA students prepare to get first taste of fame
SOURCE
By John Kiesewetter • jkiesewetter@enquirer.com • February 22, 2009
After six months of filming, MTV's new reality series finally became very real to School for Creative & Performing Arts students Saturday.
About a dozen students spent the day posing for publicity shots for the new one-hour series premiering March 19. They return to the Over-the-Rhine school today for MTV promotional videos.
"Now it's real. We're very excited about it," says Jasmine White-Killins, 18, a senior dance major from the West End.
MTV cameras have been following SCPA students since August shooting a real-life "Fame," the 1980 fictional movie about New York performing arts students pursuing their dreams.
Nick Lachey - singer, reality TV star and 1992 SCPA grad - pitched the concept to MTV two years ago. He's an executive producer on the show, which still doesn't have a title, says a MTV publicist monitoring the photo shoot Saturday.
"I always wanted to be on MTV someday, but I didn't think it would happen this soon. I can't believe it," says Malik Kitchen, 17, from Walnut Hills, who wants to dance and choreograph on Broadway.
The 10-week series running through May will focus on five students: Kitchen; White-Killins; Tyler Nelson, 18, a junior dance major from Mount Auburn; Shaakira Sargent, 17, a senior dance major from Westwood; and Mia Carruthers, 17, a senior instrumental and vocal music major from Mount Lookout.
Other students will appear in supporting roles, including Nelson's brother, Chris Lucas, 12, an SCPA seventh-grader.
"This is a dream come true for all of these kids, but especially for a singer-songwriter who wants to get her music out there," says Carruthers, whose family moved into the city from West Chester Township so she could attend SCPA.
"I feel like I'm in a dream, and I'll wake up someday and they (the TV cameras) will be gone," she says.
Actually, MTV's cameras will be around through graduation in May, Lachey has said. He wants to chronicle the entire school year for MTV, which signed a contract with Cincinnati Public Schools in December 2007. MTV is paying $10,000 for each episode, the contract says.
SCPA's soon-to-be TV stars say they can't fathom being seen by 96.3 million MTV homes.
"I try not to think about it a lot" White-Killins says. "It kind of makes me nervous."

Nick Lachey comes up for ‘Air,’ chews fat
By Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa with Simone Press
Sunday, February 22, 2009 - Added 3h ago
Nick Lachey is sooooo done talking about ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s battle of the bulge - he didn’t even know President Obama had weighed in on it!
“I hadn’t heard that he had,” Lachey told the Track. “I’m not familiar with the interview.”
Well, let’s recap, shall we?
Earlier this month, in a sitdown with NBC’s Matt Lauer, the prez was informed that he was Photoshopped out of a family portrait that wound up on the cover of US magazine . In the spot where Barack had formerly been was a big picture of Jess in her now-infamous fat pants.
“Look what they did, they took you off the cover,” Matt said incredulously.
“It’s a little hurtful,” the prez replied.
“You got replaced by Jessica Simpson,” Lauer added.
“Yeah, who’s in a weight battle, apparently,” Barack observed.
So, Nick, how do you think your ex looks?
“I’ve got no comment on that either,” he said.
Well, why dwell on the past when you’ve got an album to promote? The ex-“Newlywed” was in town the other day to play a few songs from his new “Coming Up For Air” CD to some lucky listeners in the MIX 98.5 Mix Lounge .
“I’m very proud of it,” Lachey said. “It’s never easy to compare albums. I love them all in different ways because they represent where you are in life. This one is a different place and a different time. I’m very proud and happy with it.”
Lachey said he’d never say never when asked if he’d reunite with his old group, 98 Degrees . After all, the New Kids on the Block, who started the whole boy-band thing, have just blazed a new trail for man bands.
“The New Kids were gone for quite a while and that really made a difference,” he said. “I don’t think it would be as impactful as if, say, they had just been gone for five years. They did it right, they stayed away a long time and people missed them.”
Nick, who is BFFs with Arizona Cardinals backup QB Matt Leinart, said he knows Matt’s former USC backup, Matt Cassel, a little bit.
“We hang out at the Kentucky Derby every year,” he said.
Although they haven’t discussed it, Lachey said he’s sure Leinart is very happy for Cassel, who just signed a $14 million franchise deal.
“They’re still dear friends,” he said.
Lachey was also here to promote his upcoming gig on MTV’s new “Centerstage,” a reality-show version of the old “Fame” movie that takes place at Nick’s alma mater, the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati. He’s also guest-starring, as himself, on an upcoming episode of “One Tree Hill.”
But the TV show Lachey would most like to appear on is not any teen soap - it’s Showtime’s serial-killer drama, “Dexter.”
“It’s my favorite show,” he said. “I’d love to be strapped down, Saran-Wrapped and cut wide open. See if you can make that happen . . .”
Consider it done, Nick!

Nick Lachey Talks About Kara DioGuardi And 'Center Stage,' But Not About Jessica Simpson
SOURCE
Java: MaryEllen Fillo
February 21, 2009
American pop singer and actor Nick Lachey, who rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of the boy band 98 Degrees, stopped by the Insurance City on Thursday, courtesy of WTIC-FM (96.5), which hosted a VIP party for some serious fans at the Black Bear Saloon.
Lachey starred in the hit reality TV series "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica" with his then-wife, Jessica Simpson. He recently released a new single, "Patience," has a new CD called "Coming Up For Air" and a new MTV show, "Center Stage," that starts in March.
His breeze through Hartford included lunch at Arch Street Tavern (there were some complaints about the reported less-than-10-percent tip he left) and happy hour "Bear Bites" and a Miller Light at Black Bear before performing for the "by invitation only" crowd.
In between eating and singing, he ducked into a cellar stairwell (the only place that was quiet enough) to Spill the Beans (no Jessica Simpson questions allowed) with Java.
Java: MaryEllen Fillo Java: MaryEllen Fillo Bio | E-mail | Recent columns
Q: You have so many things going on: the CD, the new single and the MTV show. But I also understand you are very active in the nonprofit "Feeding America Campaign." How did you get involved in that?
A: I think hunger is an important issue no matter what the year, but especially in times like these. More and more people are having to rely on others to help, and I got involved to do something to provide that help. We were brought up on that. Me and my family have been blessed and it is only right to take the opportunity to do something good.
Q: Tell me about the duet on your new CD with songwriter Kara DioGuardi.
A: She is a remarkable artist and writer. We wrote "Temporary" together, she did the demo and then recorded it together and it is my favorite in the album. Now, a year later, she is on "American Idol" and a star. I don't watch the show, but she is a great addition.
Q: Your CD is called "Coming Up for Air." Is it reflective of your life?
A: I'd like to think so. I'm 35 now and it is time to grow up. I can't be a kid forever.
Q: What was the idea behind your new MTV show?
A: I am really excited about that show because it is based on my old school, The Cincinnati School for Creative & Performing Arts, and will be a kind of "Fame" story. We are profiling six or seven high school seniors as they go through life not just as teenagers but as teenagers in the performing arts. I've been working on this for over a year and it's exciting to get it on MTV.
Q: Do you see jumping from singing to producing in your future?
A: I hope I don't have to make a choice and can continue to do both. I have been afforded a lot of opportunities and have a great relationship with MTV and glad they were receptive to this idea.
Q: I understand that you took off your shirt at a radio station in the Bahamas in exchange for five spins of your new record "Patience" a few weeks ago. Any interest in cutting a deal like that with 95.6 FM and this crowd?
A: The price is up because this a lot bigger crowd than the people that were in the radio station when I did it in the Bahamas. It would take quite a few more than five spins to get me to do it here. There is a lot more at stake.

Nick Lachey is funny... really!
SOURCE
Posted by Paysha Rhone February 20, 2009 01:01 PM
It’s probably pretty hard to surprise former boybander and reality TV dude Nick Lachey. He’s probably endured every personal question known to man over and over and over… until today, when 8-year-old Cameron Taylor, of Billerica, surprised him at a concert for Mix 98.5 listeners at the Colonnade Hotel with this zinger. “Have you had your tonsils out?” Lachey was floored. “I’ve been in the business 10 years and that’s a question I’ve never been asked,” he said, laughing. “I’ve been doing interviews all week… ‘What do you think about Jessica Simpson’s weight? When are you going to do Dancing with the Stars?’” For the record: the answer is no, Lachey still has his tonsils. And he gets tonsillitis often because he still has ‘em, he said. His advice to little Cameron: get the surgery while you’re young. But – just in case Lachey was disappointed – he soon got the inevitable query from another audience member. “What do you think about Jessica’s weight gain?” a young woman asked. He groaned. “She was so cute and I was so looking forward to her question and then vomit just came out of her mouth,” he answered. Eeeeewww. He must be really tired of that topic.
Lachey, by the way, sang three songs for the early-morning crowd, two of which are off his upcoming album, “Coming Up for Air.” And we have to say, the lyrics of “Good in Goodbye” still sound a wee bitter, considering he and Simpson broke up years ago and he’s reportedly quite happy with g.f. Vanessa Minnillo. “She said I never listen,” Lachey sings… “She never had much to say anyway.” After the song, he insisted, “It’s not literal at all.” OK.
Other Lachey projects in the works: a “Fame”-like MTV reality show set at his old performing arts high school in Cincinnati (Lachey is exec producer, the show premiers next month) and an April 27 appearance (as himself) on “One Tree Hill.” Lachey is also a partial owner of the Tacoma Rainiers, a Triple-A baseball team that feeds the Seattle Mariners. When someone in the crowd yelled “Red Sox,” he countered with “Not so much. Against the Yankees, I’m all Red Sox, believe me. But I’m all about the Reds. Have pity on us.”Posted by Still Lovin 98 Degrees at 4:45 PM 0 comments

Drew Lachey Puts Some Beans On It
Former boyband member and Dancing With the Stars contestant Drew Lachey has found a new niche: That of teaching America that beans are not fruit, but are in fact vegetables.
It all started with the schoolyard chant, "Beans, beans the magical fruit..." In October, a determined Lachey vowed to set things straight by launching a nationwide challenge inviiting us to rewrite the chant--and the facts.
Tiffany, Sukanya, and Jill decided to give the challenge a shot with a song and dance number to Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)." Do you think they had the beans for it?
Lachey will reveal the winner of the contest today and appear with him or her live at Times Square's Toys 'R' Us.
