One On One With Nick Lachey

Written by: ThePostGame Staff

So I invited Nick Lachey to come to my tailgate…

As you may know, with many of your folks’ help, I won tickets to the Super Bowl as a part of a blogger contest sponsored by P&G promoting their Fancestry site. (Yes, I’m very excited about this. Thanks everso y’all). The Fancestry site, which is still active, tells you what sort of fan you are after filling out some questions.
P&G is a great brand to work with because: 1. They give me great free stuff to give to fans, and great free stuff is always a good thing; 2. A number of their brands, quality ones I use every day, have an association with the NFL, and they give away cool NFL prizes like Super Bowl tickets. Win-win.
They also contact sports bloggers with emails like this, “Hey you want to interview Nick Lachey? He’s talking about Tide giving away Super Bowl tickets in our Show Us Your Colors campaign.”
Why sure!
Sports blogger life can sometimes a little random, “Honey, I got to go, I have a call I need to make to Nick Lachey.”  (Note to my female friends:  I do not have his number. It was a corporate conference call dial-in. That’s how these things work.  Besides, he’s married to someone likely way more hotter than you are. No offense but c’mon seriously.)
So the following is my interview with Nick Lachey (@NickSLachey), singer and the world’s most famous diehard Cincinnati Bengals fan.  The Show Us Your Colors campaign ends on Friday.  So do this right now! All you have to do is go to Tide’s Facebook page, upload a fan pic, and you are entered to win. Easy.
I’m a big believer in you can’t win anything in life unless you try, and so many of the best experiences in my lifehave come from that philosophy.
My Interview with Nick Lachey.
Me: So you are a diehard Bengals fan? In a wide open AFC, what do you think of your Bengals’ chances down the stretch?
Nick: “I am a huge Bengals fan. As we’ve seen the last couple of years, it’s how you finish the year. You know the Giants finished strong last year and obviously won the Super Bowl, the Packers did the same the year before, so I’m just hoping we can get on a hot streak here and get into the playoffs, and at that point, all bets are off, anything can happen. I like the way we are playing now. In past years, if the Bengals lost two in a row, they’d probably pack it in, and this year, we’ve kind of rallied and we got to keep playing well again.”
Me: So were you at the Texans – Bengals playoff game last season?
Nick: “I did not go to the game, I actually went to the game the month before when we blew the game and the Texans came back and beat us. That was an ugly loss for my Bengals, thanks very much for that Houston.”
Me: So if somehow, the Bengals and Texans meetup in the playoffs and have a game in Houston, do you want to come to my tailgate? Texas. BBQ.
Nick: “I’d love to. I’m a big fan of Connor Barwin. He went to school here in Cincinnati so I know him a little bit. I actually like the Texans. I like the team you guys have. My buddy Matt Leinart used to play for you the last couple of years as well so I kind of started following you.”
Me: So the Texans are your Plan B AFC Team?
Nick: “It is definitely my Plan B AFC team. I like them better than many other AFC teams, including the Steelers and Colts.” (Steph note: Well of course. If you aren’t a Steelers or Colts fan, you can’t be a fan of their teams one bit because their fans, as a group, are insufferable).
Me: So are you one of those NFL fans who goes to the Super Bowl whether your team is in or not?
Nick: “I’ve been lucky to go many Super Bowls over the years. I’ve been involved with a charity along with Jimmy Johnson so we went down there for that, been fortunate enough to be able to go. If I was waiting for the Bengals to go, it might be quite a few years. I can’t hold out for that, and I need to go when I can.”
Me: And New Orleans?
Nick: “This year should be a lot of fun in New Orleans. It’s actually a part of the promotion I’m doing right now with Tide, the “Show Us Your Colors” campaign, you actually can win a trip to the Super Bowl for two lucky people. It’s a great opportunity to get down there to New Orleans and have some fun.”
Me: My question with Show Us Your Colors is: Do you have any wild Bengals gear?
Nick: “I do have some wild Bengals gear. I actually took a picture of myself and my son Camden in his first Bengals’ onesie. That’s how this Show Us Your Colors thing works, we are encouraging people to post a picture of themselves in their team’s colors in a moment that was really meaningful to them. For me, it was the first time I put my son in a Bengals onesie, and we watch a game together. Whatever that moment is for you, take a picture of it, post it on Tide’s Facebook page, and then you are automatically entered for a chance to win a trip to the Super Bowl.
I didn’t put up this particular picture, but I do have a Bengals construction helmet. It is pretty atrocious.”
This is not Nick Lachey. This is a visual aid of a guy rocking some Zubaz pants. Also can double as birth control. (Picture via @SportzAssassin)
Me: Yeah, my picture is over there in the Texans section. I’m wearing my favorite red suede, fringe jacket my friend Houston artist Fletcher Stafford painted for me.  But what I’m wondering is whether you own any Bengals Zubaz pants? I think out of all the Zubaz, the Bengals’ Zubaz are the best. (Steph note: Look at them. Dare to disagree! “Best” of course means so bad they are awesome):
Nick: “I do not have any Bengals’ Zubaz, no. Zubaz are kind of a new thing, we’ve never really gotten in to Zubaz here.”
Me: No, I think they are old school,  an 80′s thing. (Steph note: They are! Zubaz FAQs)
Nick:  “Oh really, I don’t know. My Zubaz knowledge is fairly limited.”
Me: I think the perfect outfit for a Bengals fan who is also a singer would be a fitted suit made of tiger-printed velvet. (Steph note: What is the point of being a singer if you can’t wear completely ridiculous outfits on a regular basis? See e.g. Jagger, Mick).
Nick: “We have a local guy here in town who wears these kind of outfits, Bootsy Collins. He definitely has an all velvet Bengal outfit. He rocks it well. I stick with the Bengals jersey and hat.
I’d like to thank Nick for being a part of  my top 10 random experiences being a sports blogger, at least of the experiences I care to discuss publicly.
If you want more random interview stuff, I suggest checking out the answers I gave to Zach Law which I thought was going to be a Texans Q&A but ended up being more of a philosophical, social media, product placement discussion.

Nick Lachey to Host NBC's Singing Competition Series 'The Winner Is' (Exclusive)

by Lesley Goldberg

From the producers behind "The Voice," the unscripted entry will pit dueling contestants of all ages and configurations against one another to be judged by a studio audience.

Nick Lachey Headshot NBC - P 2012
Nick Lachey is returning to the musical competition series space.

The former Sing-Off host has been tapped to serve in the same capacity on NBC's upcoming singing competition series The Winner Is, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
From Talpa Media USA with creator John de Mol (The Voice) on board as an executive producer, the hybrid singing game show will see singers of all ages and configurations battling it for a studio audience. The Voice's Stijn Bakkers andDeal or No Deal's Craig Plestis also will serve as exec producers.
For Lachey, the gig brings the multiplatinum former 98 Degrees singer back to NBC after he hosted The Sing-Off for three seasons from 2009-11.
"Nick is a versatile, seasoned host, and we are thrilled to be working him," NBC alternative late-night programming president Paul Telegdy said. "With Nick at the helm on air and an original format from Talpa that includes surprising and competitive twists, viewers are sure to be immersed and entertained."
After each singing duel on The Winner Is (working title), both performances will be judged by a panel led by a not-yet-named celebrity judge. The contestants then will have the option to cut a deal. If they have doubts about how their performance compared to that of their opponent, they can opt to leave the show in exchange for cash. If they choose to remain in the game, they await the jury results to see if they’ve made it to the next round and a step closer to the ultimate $1 million cash prize.
The hosting gig marks the latest for Lachey, who also has served in the same role on NBC's Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and multiple episodes as a co-host on Live! With Kelly, among others. More recently, he was among the contestants on NBC's Stars Earn Stripes.
Auditions for the series will be held in Raleigh, N.C., Houston, Seattle and Philadelphia. Details:

Drew Lachey's daughter steals the show on 'Dancing With the Stars: All Stars' finale

Drew Lachey with his daughter Isabella and pro partner Anna TrebunskayaDrew Lachey may have lost his chance at the mirrorball trophy early in the season (he was the third celeb to get axed), but he won America's heart last night when he hit the floor for a father-daughter dance on the season finale of "Dancing With the Stars: All Stars."
Lachey, 36, and his pro partner Anna Trebunskaya got the party started as they cha-chaed to Beyoncé's "Crazy in Love," but when Isabella, 6, sashayed onto the floor in black Converse kicks, a tutu, and a rhinestone-studded hoodie, the crowd went wild.
Proud pop Lachey picked up his daughter and performed a series of swing dancing lifts before the cutie stole the show with her own dancing skills. She mugged for the camera as she busted a move with break dancing-style kicks, splits, and shimmies. She even pumped up the audience as she clapped her hands over her head while Lachey clapped along.
It shouldn't be a huge surprise that the former boy bander's spawn knows how to break it down: Her mom, Lea, was the 98 Degrees choreographer and a dancer for the group. Clearly, rhythm is in her blood.
"DWTS" host Brooke Burke-Charvet summed up the tiny dancer's performance best, saying, "She's got the moves."
And she certainly does…

Drew Lachey's daughter Isabella Claire who arguably stole the show

Calling the six-year-old his 'secret weapon,' Drew bought her on to help out with his and pro Anna Trebunskaya's performance to Crazy in Love.
'Its really exciting because I get to finally dance with my daddy in front of a thousand of people,' Isabella had said before the performance, with daddy Drew adding: 'This is going to make so many memories,' Drew said.
Stealing the show: Drew Lachey's daughter Isabella joined in with his final dance, much to the audience's delight
She's a hit! Drew described the six year old as his 'secret weapon' as he took to the floor with Anna Trebunskaya for a dance to Beyonce

'How many people actually get to dance with their daughters on Dancing With The Stars?'

Nick Lachey's Fantasy Football Struggles

Like so many other fantasy owners, Nick Lachey is middling in mediocrity.
The singer and Cincinnati native is in two leagues, and he’s stuck in the middle in both.
"It’s not a fantastic year," Lachey told ThePostGame, "but not a catastrophic one either."
Lachey, a huge Bengals fan, says he has been accused before of "drafting with my heart and not my head," so lately he’s tried to change that. Despite several solid fantasy weapons on the Bengals offense, including quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green, this year the only Cincinnati player on either of his rosters is place kicker Mike Nugent.
Despite the dearth of Cincinnati players on his roster, Lachey can’t help but sympathize with the Bengals.
"Like the Bengals, I've just got to make it to the postseason," Lachey said, "then anything can happen."

Chat with Nick Lachey

Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, musician, actor, and big Cincinnati sports fan, Nick Lachey stops by to chat about how he's sending an NFL fan to the Super Bowl.
Lachey, @NickSLachey, as a member of the boyband 98 Degrees and as a solo artist, sold over 10 million albums. In addition to his musical career, he is also an actor and TV personality. A native of Cincinnati, he is a big Reds, Bengals and University of Cincinnati fan.
Lachey is teaming up with Tide for the "Show Us Your Colors" NFL sweepstakes. The team whose fans upload the most pictures to Tide's Facebook page receives a $15,000 donation to the charity of choice. And any fan who uploads a photo enters the drawing for the chance at a trip for two to Super Bowl XLVII.

Nick is here!
Chris (Denver)

Nick, you've got the new baby now, so how much Tide do you have stocked up at your house?
Nick Lachey
  (1:01 PM)

We have a lot of Tide at the house. As any parent knows, kids go through clothes pretty quick. The laundry machine is going all the time.
Ava (DC)

So, will you be joining the winner of the sweepstakes on the trip to the Super Bowl?
Nick Lachey
  (1:02 PM)

I actually hope to be at the Super Bowl myself, I'm not sure if we'll be going down together! It's definitely a campaign worth being a part of.
Alex (SF)

Do you think the Bengals have taken a step forward or backward this year? They've been inconsistent.
Nick Lachey
  (1:03 PM)

I think it's a step forward. Last year we had a really soft schedule, and even though we made the playoffs, it wasn't a convincing run. I think we're moving in the right direction.
Derek (Chicago)

Since Cincinnati doesn't have an NBA team, where do your basketball rooting interests lie?
Nick Lachey
  (1:03 PM)

I am proud to say now, since they're good now, that I'm a Clippers fan since 1992. I went to school nearby and have been a fan since.
Kevin (GA)

How did you get hooked up with this Tide promotion?
Nick Lachey
  (1:04 PM)

I think they knew I'm a huge sports fan. It was sort of a no-brainer. For me, it was extra special when my son was born and putting him in his first Bengals onsie and that was the picture I uploaded. It's all about celebrating your team and the colors. I fit right into that.
Tyler (LA)

What did you think about the REds this season? Things sure look promising!
Nick Lachey
  (1:05 PM)

It was a disappionting way to end the season, but all in all a good year. The things are in place and the next five years or so should be really good.
Lyle (Miami)

Nick, I've recently seen a photo circulating of you and your son wearing Bengals jerseys.....why would you do that to your son?
Nick Lachey
  (1:06 PM)

Ultimately, he'll have to make his own choices of who he will be a fan of. I will let him make that decision when the time comes, but until then, misery loves company.
Will (Texas)

Are you going to be uploading your Show Us Your Colors pictures?
Nick Lachey
  (1:06 PM)

That was such a cool shot with his first game, I don't know if I can top it. Maybe I'll upload one of myself or with the wife. It's a great way to be creative. Have fun with it.
Geno Atkins (Cinncinnatti)

Who is your favorite athlete today? All time favorite?
Nick Lachey
  (1:07 PM)

Since you're a Cincinnati guy, I'll keep it local. I'm a huge Joey Votto fan, but with the Bengals, I like AJ Green. All time, I have to go with Pete Rose.
Erin (RI)

what's been the best part of becoming a dad?
Nick Lachey
  (1:08 PM)

So hard to pick just one thing. It's the opportunity to watch a life grow up in front of your eyes each and every day. To watch the changes right in front of you.
Ryan (San Diego)

When's the next time we can see you on a TV show or in a movie?
Nick Lachey
  (1:08 PM)

I'm getting ready to do a new show with NBC. I can't share the details of it, but you'll see me pop up on the TV again.
Chris (NYC)

what was Stripes like?
Nick Lachey
  (1:09 PM)

Intense, in one word. It gave me a real appreciation for what our Armed Services men and women do every day.
Ron (OH)

Nick, what are your thoughts on the next big thing in boxing, Cincy's own Adrien Broner?
Nick Lachey
  (1:09 PM)

I think he's an absolute animal. I got a chance to see his fight on Saturday. I think he is the next big thing in boxing. I'm excited to have a contender coming out of Cincinnati.
Geno Atkins (Cinncinnatti)

Do you have my jersey yet?
Nick Lachey
  (1:10 PM)

I've got one hanging in my closet. Congrats on the good year!
Tommy (Madison, WI)

Any new singles or albums coming out?
Nick Lachey
  (1:10 PM)

I just finished a lulaby album that I finished for Camden my son. That will be coming out in February.
Shane (Arkansas)

What is your favorite hat/cap of all time to wear?
Nick Lachey
  (1:11 PM)

Oooh...all time it's the classic Reds hat. The red with the white C.
Rick (Jacksonville)

What type of detergent do you wash your sports jerseys in?
Nick Lachey
  (1:11 PM)

Tide. 100%. High efficiency. Cold water. Tide.
Will (NC)

best game to watch?
Nick Lachey
  (1:12 PM)

Wow....I've been really fortunate to go to a lot of big games. I've been to a Game 7 and the Super Bowl. Those two stand out as being the coolest to be at.
Alex (SF)

bweing a big sports nut, you use your celebrity to get free tickets?
Nick Lachey
  (1:13 PM)

Shamelessly, yes.
Nick Lachey
  (1:14 PM)

I encourage everyone to post a shot of you in your teams colors on the Tide "Show Us Your Colors" Facebook page to enter yourself into the competition for Super Bowl tickets.
  (1:14 PM)

Thanks Nick!
