I attended my first Indianapolis 500 this past weekend and had a great time. I have friends that come in from Vegas every year, they usually come for the F1, but since it’s not running they decided to continue the tradition and just switch it to the Indianapolis 500.

We had a blast. Had some good seats and got to see some celebrities. I’ll have to admit though, I didn’t know a lot of them, here are two that we had to ask who they were.

Summer Tv Preview *Nick & Drew Lachey*

MONDAY

Nick LacheyThe timeslot will then be taken over by "High School Musical: Get in the Picture" and "Wanna Bet?" mid-summer, a losing combination that will surely suffer from poor viewership. "High School Musical," hosted by Nick Lachey (who long ago gave new meaning to the phrase "hitting rock bottom") is yet another musical/talent competition. This one focuses on a bunch of hopeful wannabe singers competing to win a starring role in a music video that will run during the end credits of upcoming feature film "High School Musical 3."

In "Wanna Bet?," D-List celebrities bet on the outcomes of crazy stunts, with the winnings going to charity. Not to be outdone by brother Nick, Drew Lachey will be one of the "lucky" pseudo-celebs appearing on the program.

Helio Castroneves and Julianne Hough Share Parade Car

source

Helio Castroneves shared his parade car with none other than Julianne Hough. The parade I am referring to is the Indy 500 parade that takes place downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. Julianne sang her new single “That Song In My Head” while former Dancing alums, Drew Lachey, Sabrina Bryan, Marlee Matlin and Fabian Sanchez looked on. They held up all 10’s after she finished. Drew, Sabrina, Marlee, and Fabian were in the Dancing with the Stars Float as well.

After Julianne sang her song, she was interviewed for about 15 minutes. She will be touring with Brad Paisley next month and will open for him. They asked about Helio and how much they keep in touch and she said they talk all the time that they are really great friends. She said they had been texting each other all day since she hadn’t seen him since she got into town. She saw him right after that because she shared his parade car with him. The seat next to the driver is usually reserved for wives, children, and family members. Don’t get the wrong idea - they still profess that they are just good friends.

I’ve captured some pictures of Julianne Hough and Helio Castroneves. The last picture is of the Dancing with the Stars Float. Drew Lachey is in the white. Standing next to him is Sabrina Bryan with Fabian next to her. Marlee was next to Fabian, but she isn’t pictured (sorry Marlee fans).

Celebrities show up in full force for 500 Festival Snakepit Ball

source

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It was quite the party at the annual Regions 500 Festival Snakepit Ball Saturday night. One by one celebrity filled limos rolled along Washington Street stopping at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.

Actress Patricia Heaton and her producer husband David Hunt started the evening off with an announcement.

"We, Four Boys Films, our production company, are now the proud sponsors of the Sarah Fisher Racing Team," Patricia Heaton's husband David Hunt said.

"We thought it would be fun to step in for a fellow buckeye and sponsor and it gives us a little more of a personal interest in the race, too," Heaton said.

And the celebs kept coming.

"I had such a great time last year and it was my first race and I just begged to come back. I just love it," actress Alison Sweeney said.

Fresh off a Dancing with the Stars win, Kristi Yamaguchi has a very special job race day.

"I am waving the green flag and I heard it's good to practice so you get the professional look out there," Yamaguchi said.

Another Dancing with the stars champ came to root on her dance partner, Helio.

"I am so excited to see him hopefully wish him luck you know since I am here of course you know the luck will happen," dancer and singer Julianne Hough said.

"Tomorrow I am rooting for Helio of course. He's my boy I love him so much and I can't wait. I know he's going to win because he's got all of us here backing him up," Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls said.

"As long as its a safe race nobody gets hurt and it stays dry you know and we finish under a green flag that's a good day," singer Drew Lachey said.

"I mean come on I am a girl, I've got to root for Danica. That would be so awesome if she won. That would just be to have my first Indy race and have her win. I am mean I'll be happy no matter what but that would just be extra cool," actress Jenna Elfman said.

The celebrities headed inside where the party was rocking, just ask party sponsor Cindy Simon Skjodt, "People get to have fun they dance they drink they eat then they go home and get ready for the race."

And Helio's former dancing partner Julianne Hough isn't just rooting on her dance partner during the race Sunday. She will also be singing the National Anthem at the greatest spectacle in racing.

92nd Indianapolis 500 - 25 May pre-race celebrity red carpet quotes : -

source
MARCUS ALLEN (Pro Football Hall of Famer, Heisman Trophy winner): "I'm excited. Last year was my first time, and I gained a much greater appreciation, being here in person and seeing all the people, asking questions about how everything works, seeing the racers, seeing the speeds they go, seeing the pit crews work, hearing the communications and how it works, I just have a much greater appreciation for these drivers. I always did, but when you go at top speeds, you really understand what they are doing and stuff, so it's great for me. I'm pulling for Tomas (Scheckter). We're hoping he does well today."

SABRINA BRYAN (Entertainer, "Dancing with the Stars"): "Oh my gosh! It's so exciting. Even just the drive in, it was like, 'Oh my gosh!' I just got chills seeing all of the people out there already ready to have fun, ready for a good day. I saw Helio (Castroneves) last night and gave him the best of luck and the warmest wishes. I'm just so excited to be here. I remember when I was little, my grandpa had it on all the time and I told my manager earlier today, that if he were around I would've had to bring him and I couldn't have brought her because he absolutely loves race car driving. It's just really cool to watch it when I was little and now to actually be here. He'd be so excited for me." (About event): "It's just great. Everyone from Indianapolis is here, and they're just so excited to be here. They're so proud of it and the Indy 500 is a big thing, and it's really great to see how proud they are."

DREW LACHEY (Singer, "Dancing with the Stars"): "I'm rooting for Helio Castroneves, but I'm also rooting for Ryan Hunter-Reay. I'm obviously rooting for Helio because of the 'Dancing with the Stars' connection, but I actually became friends with Ryan's girlfriend, Becky, during a celebrity grand prix in Long Beach. I'm hoping everyone has a good run today and that we finish under green." (About whether he'd rather see Castroneves or Hunter-Reay): "I can't answer that. Helio has two, and he won 'Dancing with the Stars,' and this is Ryan's first race, but I don't know." (About his impression of this race): "Indianapolis throws a great party for this race. The people here are great. Everyone is here to have a good time. In terms of the actual event itself, there isn't anything else like it. It is a great race, and I love coming here

Dancin to change Diabetes

Source

dancin' to change diabetes

Calling all dancers, movers and shakers! From ballerinas to breakdancers to those who just boogie in their spare time!

ABC's Dancing with the Stars champion Drew Lachey and Novo Nordisk, a world leader in diabetes care, invite you to create a new video or submit an old video showing off dance moves that keep you healthy and active.

Diabetes affects an estimated 20.8 million people in the United States and 246 million more people worldwide. Although nutrition and exercise are indispensable components of diabetes prevention and control, two out of three people diagnosed with diabetes are not managing their chronic condition, putting them at an alarming risk of serious complications.

Through the Dancin' to Change Diabetes contest and the Changing Diabetes® Bus World Tour, Novo Nordisk is trying to turn the tide of diabetes through education on the importance of exercising and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

You've seen Drew dancing with the pop group 98 Degrees and win season two of Dancing with the Stars. Now, he gets to be the judge. So submit an old video or grab a video camera, pick a favorite tune and show us the dancing that may help to keep you fit and curb the risk of diabetes. Get moving!

Winners will receive one of the following prizes:

  • First place: a year-long gym membership within close proximity to winner.
  • Second place: a WiiTM System including WiiTM controllers, Wii FitTM and Dance Dance RevolutionTM.
  • Third place: a four hundred dollar gift certificate to REI®, a popular sporting goods store.

'Dancing With the Stars': 100th episode celebration, and an elimination

We've got two hours of Dancing With the Stars tonight so the show can celebrate its 100th episode (and host Tom Bergeron's birthday, as I learned on Entertainment Tonight a little while ago. Please don't judge me).

The first hour features the judges' favorite dances from the first five seasons. No. 10 is Kelly Monaco's freestyle from the season one's week six. No. 9 is Sabrina Bryan's paso doble from season five. No. 8 is Emmitt Smith's cha-cha-cha from season three. No. 7 is Apolo Anton Ohno's seaon four quickstep. No. 6 is Joey Fatone's season four jive. No. 5 is Helio Castroneves' season five quickstep (in the giant yellow suit). No. 4 is Drew Lachey's freestyle from season two's finale. No. 3 is Stacy Keibler's season two samba. No. 2 is Mel B's paso doble from season five. No. 1 is Mario Lopez's tango from season three.

I didn't watch the first season, but I learned from this clip show that the standards are a lot higher now. During that Kelly Monaco dance, there were a bunch of parts where they paused to make sure they started the next part together, and she was looking at her partner's feet a bunch. Interesting.

Let's get on with the results show, shall we?

* They kick things off with a big group dance from the pros to "Hard to Handle."

* Montage from last night.

* Backstage, Samantha Harris talks to the five remaining stars, all of whom feel at risk, glad to be there and hope to still be around next week.

* Rascal Flatts performs, and Apolo Anton Ohno and Julianne Hough dance along with them. (They rock, by the way.)

* Tom Bergeron talks to a bunch of past cast members, who are in the audience. Stacy Keibler says she emailed George Hamilton to see if he would be around. Lisa Rinna says she is doing lots of cardio ballroom. Jerry Springer says his hip still hurts. Vivica A. Fox says she's retired her stilettos. Joey Fatone says he's still bitter, and Kenny Mayne says he's tired of being Tom's punchline, and Sabrina just gets to say "thank you" after Tom says Kenny used all her time.

* Mario Lopez and the cast of Broadway's A Chorus Line hit the stage to perform.

* Rascal Flatts returns, and Mel B and Maksim Chmerkovskiy dance.

* Kelly Monaco tells Samantha she's for Kristi. Apolo says he's for the athletes, but probably Kristi because he's partial to skaters. Drew says his money is on Cristian.

* Results, finally: Marissa Jaret Winokur and Tony Dovolani are safe, as are Kristi Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas. After a break, more results: Cristian de la Fuente and Cheryl Burke are safe, which leaves Mario and Jason Taylor as the last two stars standing. Leaving are Mario and Karina Smirnoff, meaning Jason Taylor and Edyta Sliwinska are safe.

* Mario says: "I've had a great time performing on this show, I've had a great partner, we've had some great competition. ... Len, thank you for all your comments. Ultimately, you've helped me become a better ballroom dancer. And the comment about me being brave and being an inspiration for young people. I want to say that the real brave ones are the young men and women fighting for our country."

Well, that's a classy exit for our hometown contestant. How do you feel about the results?

Nick Lachey won't be like Simon Cowell on "High School Musical: Get in the Picture"; don't look for Nick on "Dancing With the Stars"

Source
Meetnicklacheyst

Expect a friendly, helpful host in Nick Lachey on "High School Musical: Get in the Picture."

Will he be anything like Simon Cowell?

"Not at all," Lachey told me Wednesday. This ABC reality show, which debuts July 20, promotes a positive outlook.

"It's about encouraging kids," he said as hopefuls registered at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando. "It's about finding the kids who truly have the passion for it and trying to encourage them, whether they make the show or not."

The selected kids will train at a music school in Utah, where the movies were filmed. The winner's prize: an appearance in a music video that will play over the end credits of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," a theatrical film coming this fall.

Hundreds Audition For Reality Show Based On 'High School Musical'

source

Aspiring TV stars from local high schools were among those auditioning for a new reality show based on 'High School Musical.'

Published: May 8, 2008

Updated: 12:14 am

ORLANDO - A disc jockey's voice boomed over a loudspeaker urging more than 1,000 young aspiring actors to break into a frenzy of excitement when singer/host Nick Lachey introduced the auditions for "High School Musical: Get In The Picture."

Cameras recorded the action Wednesday morning outside Champion Stadium at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, where casting is under way for the ABC summer reality series.

Corralled in a long line that circled around a sculpture of a globe, the young people who want to be part of "High School Musical" were damp with sweat after four hours in the Florida sun. But their spirits remained intact.

"It would be a dream come true to get on this show," says Courtney Slaven, a 16-year-old Plant High School student who made the trek from Tampa with pals Jillian Goldman, 16, of Wharton High; Claudia Torres, 15, of Freedom High and Brooke Causey, 18, of Lakewood High School, who plans to study theater arts at the University of South Florida.

All four are members of the Entertainment Revue, a Tampa-based performing arts group, and they banded together for moral support. "We've already seen Nick Lachey right here and that was amazing," says Goldman.

"We've all been performing since we could walk," Slaven adds.

"And we've seen 'High School Musical' about a million times," Torres chimes in.

"High School Musical," the most-watched movie in the history of cable, already has spawned a successful sequel, a ton of merchandise and hundreds of high school plays. A third film is in production and fourth has been announced.

"Get In the Picture," which will debut July 20, will be taped next month in Utah. It will follow 10 to 12 aspiring actors at a summer acting camp. One will be picked to appear in a music video that will run during the closing credits of "High School Musical 3: Senior Year."

"I just want to be a part of the 'High School Musical' family," says Anna Harrington, 19, a Blake High School graduate who now lives in Kissimmee and works in a musical show at Universal Studios.

Harrington, who grew up in South Tampa, seemed to impress the media and the talent scouts Wednesday with her a cappella rendition of "Reflection" from Disney's "Mulan."

"I just want to play the guy who takes Vanessa Hudgens from Zac Efron," jokes John Wesley, 18, from Valrico, referring to the two heartthrob stars of "High School Musical."

Wesley, a Grace Christian student, notes that the women greatly outnumbered the men at the audition. "And that's a good thing," he says.

Young people, ages 16 to 22, came from throughout the eastern United States for the audition. They started arriving at 5:15 a.m. One woman says she drove all night from New Orleans to give her 16-year-old daughter a chance to compete.

Casting director Robyn Coff says the auditions will continue at the Disney resort for a week. "Our goal is to whittle the thousand down to 30 and then down to 10," she says.

These semifinalists will then compete against 10 semifinalists from the West Coast and 10 or 12 will go on to the Utah camp where they will be trained and coached.

Executive producer Jay Blumenfeld says they are looking for bright, outgoing, energetic actors who can sing and dance. "We want young people who reflect the excitement of the 'High School Musical,'" he says.

The audition process will be part of the series, but there won't be any embarrassing clips of bad singers and dancers who fail to make the cut. "We are about building up dreams, not tearing them down," Blumenfeld says. "There will be no humiliation."

He also says that none of those selected for the show will be eliminated. They will be coached and judged by a "faculty" of performing arts specialists who have yet to be announced. One "student" will be picked for the video on the final episode.

"This could be a life-changing opportunity for all of them," says Lachey, who attended a performing arts school in Cincinnati when he was a teenager. By the time he was in college, he became part of a quartet that would become the pop group 98 Degrees, which had a string of hits from 1997 to 2002.

Lachey says his role as host is to be a traffic cop and guide the viewer though the action as well as to be a sounding board and offer moral support for the contestants.
