Nick Lachey Picks the Worst Boy Band of the '90s (Hint: It's Not 98 Degrees)

SOURCE

The battle of the boy bands continues!
98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey was asked to pick the worst pop group of the '90s during a Monday appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live. The musician—who appeared sans bandmates Justin JeffreDrew Lachey and Jeff Timmons—didn't shade more successful acts like New Kids On The BlockBoys II MenBackstreet Boys or 'N Sync. Instead, he chose a more obscure British quintet: 5ive.
To be fair, it was host Andy Cohen who first suggested 5ive was the bottom of the barrel. "It's so funny you call them out, said Lachey," who hosts Vh1's Morning Buzz. "That's exactly who I was gonna say."
According to the 40-year-old ""I Do (Cherish You)" singer, "We had a big time beef with those guys."
"We were on the Smash Hits tour in the U.K. with a bunch of pop groups at the time, and 5ive for whatever reason just had it out for us," he said of the 1998 shows. "So we used to battle every night."
Lachey went solo after his band's 2000 album Revelation, but 98 Degrees reunited for 2.0in 2013. 5ive—known for semi-hits like "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)" and "When the Lights Go Out"—released three albums between 1999 and 2001. Five years after the band broke up, in 2006, J BrownAbz LoveRitchie Neville and Scott Robinson staged a comeback without fifth band member Sean Conlon. Eight months later, they disbanded a second time. They were featured in the ITV2 documentary series The Big Reunion in early 2013, and they went on a tour of the U.K.—this time, however, Brown was M.I.A.
In late 2013, the "Everybody Get Up" singers embarked on their first solo tour as a four-piece band. Love quite the group in March 2014, effectively making Conlon, Neville and Robinson a pop trio.
98 Degrees, meanwhile, co-headlined a tour with Boyz II Men and NKOTB in the summer of 2013.

During his appearance on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live," singer Nick Lachey showed host Andy Cohen that he was game to answer some questions about his ex-wife Jessica Simpson.

Lachey appeared on the late night talk show with his fellow 98 Degrees band members Justin Jeffre, Jeff Timmons and brother Drew Lachey on Tuesday, May 7. The 39-year-old singer told Cohen, while answering a question from a fan, that he hadn't seen or spoken to Simpson in at least six years.
"Is this that part where I can plead the Fifth," Lachey asked Cohen, referring to a game the two played in a previous segment of the show, when the fan question came up. "It's been years. Years. Honestly, probably six years."
"It was like another lifetime ago," Lachey added.
When Cohen asked Lachey if he ever "curled up with a 'Newlyweds' DVD," Lachey said, "I have not. As you can imagine, that's not popular viewing in my house. We don't sit around as a family and watch the old DVDs."
Lachey and Simpson were married from 2002 until 2006. The couple starred together on the MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."
Since then, Lachey wed television personality Vanessa Minnillo in July 2011 and the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Camden John, in September 2012.
Simpson has also moved on. She became engaged to former NFL player Eric Johnson in 2010. The two are parents to a 1-year-old daughter named Maxwell Drew Johnson and Simpson is currently pregnant with the couple's second child.
During the "Plead the Fifth" segment of the show, Cohen asked Lachey "What is the best thing about no longer having Joe Simpson as a father-in-law?"
Drew Lachey chimed in and said, "Everything!"
Nick Lachey's answer to the question can be viewed here. (Warning: Video contains an expletive.) The boy band was on the talk show to promote their new album "2.0," which was released on Tuesday.
