Nick Lachey Says He and Wife Vanessa Have 'Not Read a Single Word' of Jessica Simpson's Tell-All Book

Nick Lachey Says He and Wife Vanessa Have 'Not Read a Single Word' of Jessica Simpson's Tell-All Book

Nick and Jessica were married for four years in the early 2000s, achieving even bigger success as reality stars on MTV's "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."

Jessica Simpson has taken the world by storm with her tell-all "Open Book," where she is very candid and -- ahem -- open about her past relationships, struggles with alcohol abuse and how she found her way through early stardom. And while it seems everyone is talking about it, not everyone has read it.

And may not have any intention to do so, as it turns out.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Jessica's ex-husband Nick Lachey said, "I have not read a single word." And then, just in case you were picturing his wife Vanessa lying in bed reading the book, he added, "Both of us have not read the book."
The singer also emphasized, "And no, she did not reach out before it was published." That's something Jessica has been pretty upfront about as well, though Nick really would seem to have very little to complain about if he does ever crack it open.

Wanting to be respectful of her marriage and Nick's marriage, Jessica was actually pretty nice to him and when talking about the tumultuous four years they spent together as man and wife.

She said that Nick was drawn to her "wide-eyed innocent approach to life," which fans absolutely ate up during their four years as reality television stars on "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica."

Perhaps as a cautionary tale to other couples living their lives in front of a camera, the series actually ran pretty much their entire marriage, with the couple filing for divorce in the same year it wrapped.
And yet, Jessica seems to have no real animosity toward Nick (or at least none that she shared).

"I was really young and my success hadn’t really begun," she said of their early days together. "He knew me as this young, innocent 18-year-old that had never been introduced to the world in so many ways. I went straight from my father to him. Nick’s very smart. He was eight years older than me, but he was also young."

"We meant a lot to each other and we always will," Jessica continued in her book. "I want to be very respectful because I married him for a reason and we were together for seven years for a reason. He has a family now and I would never say anything to disrespect that."

She had far harsher words for another famous ex, John Mayer, or at least her reaction to him. She said she felt incredible pressure and anxiety and fear that she "wasn’t smart enough for him," which led her into alcohol.

"It was the start of me relying on alcohol to mask my nerves," she wrote. Jessica has been sober since November 2017.

She also shared a disturbing story about a time when Justin Timberlake came to her house and after kissing her immediately texted Ryan Gosling, revealing that they'd had a bet going since they were all children as to who would kiss her first.

Jessica laughed it off on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" this past week, but many did not find it funny at all that he objectified and dehumanized her in that way, and did so right in front of her.

Fans can check out all these stories and more when Jessica Simpson's "Open Book" hits bookstore shelves on February 4.

Nick Lachey REACTS to Ex Jessica Simpson's Tell-All Book

Nick Lachey Says He Has Nothing But ‘Respect’ For Ex Jessica Simpson

Nick Lachey has addressed the bombshell excerpts of ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s upcoming memoir, Open Book.
The former 98 Degrees member joined his wife Vanessa Lachey on Monday’s episode of “Today” and finally commented on the upcoming release, revealing he has yet to read it.
Simpson spilled on her past relationships in the book, including her marriage to Lachey and her on-again-off-again relationship with John Mayer.
“Nick loved the fact I was so strong in my faith and that I had this wide-eyed innocent approach to life,” she writes in excerpts released by People magazine. “When he proposed in 2002, I said yes.”
“We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always mic’d and always on,” she continued. “We worked and we were great at it but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore.”
But Lachey told “Today”‘s Hoda Kotb that while he hasn’t read the book, he has nothing but “respect” for his ex.
“I haven’t read the book so I don’t know what she said or what she revealed but certainly happy for her in her life and I know she is happy for us,” he explained. “There is definitely a mutual respect there. Obviously, it was a long time ago and we’ve all moved on.”
Lachey mirrored those comments in an interview with Us Weekly, “Well, no, I have not read a single word. Both of us [Vanessa Lachey] have not read the book, and no, she did not reach out before it was published.”
Open Book drops Feb. 4.

Everything Nick Lachey Spilled About Kim Kardashian Date, Newlyweds, 98 Degrees on WWHL

Nick tells Andy Cohen it's a "buzz kill" when fans run up to him and his wife and quote Jessica Simpson.
There are few things we enjoy as much as nostalgia, and Nick Lachey is just full of it.
The former frontman of 98 degrees and ex-husband of Jessica Simpson stopped by "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" Thursday night to take several different trips down memory lane. Though he's now happily married to Vanessa Lachey (the couple have three children together), Lachey was happy to indulge Cohen, the audience and several curious callers.
Nick has no regrets about "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica," the reality show he filmed with his then-wife, because he says it gave a "platform." However, neither he nor his wife Vanessa appreciate it when fans run up to him and quote some of the show's most famous lines, i.e., "Is this chicken what I have, or is this fish? I know it's tuna, but it...it says 'Chicken by the Sea.'" According to Nick, "that's a buzz kill."
"That show gave me a chance to kind of show who I was," he explained. "'Cause when you're in a boy band, nobody really knows who you are as a person, so although that chapter of my life is obviously closed, the show gave me a great platform to say, 'Hey, this is who I am.' And I got a lot of fans to this day because of the show."
"It does fascinate me, though, that it's been 15 years, and people are still talking about it! They think about it like it was yesterday," he added, noting that he and Vanessa "don't sit around and watch it at the house, if you could imagine. It's not [for] family viewing."
Nick famously went on one date with Kim Kardashian in 2006, six months after his split from Jessica. He's said in the past he believes she tipped off the paparazzi that night.
When a caller asked him whether he ever heard from "his ex" after he dressed up as her and her then-husband, Kris Humphries, while guest co-hosting "Live" with Kelly Ripa on Halloween 2011, Lachey was quick to clarify that referring to Kim as his ex was "a little bit of a liberal use of the term."
"I think we went on one date together," he said. "But no, I never did hear from Kim on that one. Ironic timing."
"That was an interesting one because I was hosting with Kelly, and we played Kim and Kris Humphries at the time," he recalled. "I was on stilts and the whole thing. And then maybe 20 minutes after we wrapped the show, they announced their divorce."
Pressed by Cohen for more details on his short-lived romance with Kardashian, Lachey revealed the two went to see a matinee showing of "The Da Vinci Code."
"She left about halfway through and went to the restroom, and then shockingly, there were 25 paparazzi when we left the theater," Nick said. "I think there were other things in play on our little rendezvous."
"Couldn't be a nicer girl," he added. "We had a great time. But no, we don't keep in touch anymore, to answer your question."
Though the pop group went on hiatus in 2003, Nick still has fond memories of the band he formed with brother Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre. But given that it was Halloween, Andy said the Bravo Clubhouse was "haunted by the ghosts of Nick's 98 Degrees bandmates." It was their monograms, and not Cohen, who posed the "shady questions."
"Jeff Timmons" appeared to ask Nick which boy band he felt was the most overrated. "I would go with an English boy band," Nick replied. "There was a group called Five, which we toured with years ago, and I legendarily hate Five. So by default, yes, way overrated."
Then "Drew Lachey" showed up to ask his brother which 98 Degrees song still haunts him to this day. "The one I actually probably least like to perform is 'Una Noche,'" Nick replied.
Last but not least, "Justin Jeffre" appeared to inform Nick that Justin Timberlake's wife, Jessica Biel, recently revealed she doesn't know any NSYNC songs. He then asked if Vanessa knew any 98 Degrees songs. After a smile and a brief pause, Nick said, "She does now!" adding, "She will be the first to say that she was not a fan of 98 Degrees. She was more in the NSYNC groupie category. So unlike Jessica Biel, she knew every NSYNC song but knew none of our songs."

Nick Lachey Talks About His Former Reality Show ‘Newlyweds’: ‘It’s Not Family Viewing’

Nick Lachey can “vibe” with his former reality show, Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica, but fans might not want to mention Chicken of the Sea around him — especially if he’s with his wife, Vanessa Lachey.

The singer, 45, sounded off on the 2003 MTV series — which chronicled the first years of his marriage to Jessica Simpson — on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Thursday, October 31.
Lachey told host Andy Cohen that he’s grateful for the experience. “That show gave me a chance to kinda show who I was,” he said. “Because when you’re in a band, like, a boy band, nobody really knows who you are as a person. So all of that chapter of my life is obviously closed. The show gave me a great platform to say, ‘Hey, this is who I am.’ And got a lot of fans to this day because of the show. … I vibe with it.”

That said, Lachey is surprised by the show’s enduring popularity. “It does fascinate me, though, that it’s been 15 years, I think, and people are still thinking about it like it was yesterday,” he said.
The show ended with its third season in March 2005, and Lachey and Simpson, 39, filed for divorce that December and finalized their split in June 2006. The fashion designer moved on with Eric Johnsonmarrying the football player, with whom she shares three children, in 2014. For his part, Lachey married Vanessa (née Minnillo) in 2011, and they too have welcomed three kids.
On WWHL, the America’s Most Musical Family host said that he and Vanessa, 38, are happy to leave Newlyweds in the past. “We don’t sit around and watch it at the house,” he quipped. “If you can imagine, it’s not family viewing.”
Cohen, 51, asked about fans coming up to the couple and talking about Chicken of the Sea — referencing the famous Newlyweds scene in which the canned tuna brand confused Simpson — and Lachey confirmed it’s not one of his and Vanessa’s favorite topics of conversation. “Yeah, that’s a buzzkill,” he said.
“She doesn’t love that,” Cohen observed.
“Nor do I,” Lachey responded.

Nick Lachey Vows to Never Do Another Reality Show With His Family After ‘Newlyweds’ With Ex Jessica Simpson

Chances of a Newlyweds reboot was unlikely for obvious reasons, but Nick Lachey has no plans to return to a family-centric reality show with his wife, Vanessa Lachey, either.

“No, that would not be in the cards,” the 45-year-old musician told Us Weekly on Wednesday, September 18, while discussing his partnership with Subway. “It’s funny, I had this conversation with somebody the other day. With social media, I feel like it’s kind of the new, the new wave of reality, but it’s one that you can kind of govern yourself. So I think that’s kind of a perfect mix for where I’m at in life. Having been there and done that, I don’t think there’s any chance you’ll ever see that happen again. You know who I am.”
The 98 Degrees vocalist and ex Jessica Simpson starred on MTV’s Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica for three seasons from 2003 to 2005. Less than a year after the show wrapped, the duo announced their split. Their divorce was finalized in 2006.
The “I Wanna Love you Forever” songstress, who married Eric Johnson in 2014, announced in July that her upcoming memoir will address their former reality show.
Topics covered will rage from “her popular television show Newlyweds, to a very public divorce, starring on the big screen and topping the Billboard charts, finding new love, raising a family, and running a successful business empire,” the press release read. (Simpson, 39, and Johnson, 40, are parents of Maxwell, 7, Ace, 6, and Birdie, 5 months.)
Nick, for his part, married Vanessa in 2011. They also share three children: Camden, 7, Brooklyn, 4, and Phoenix, 2.
The Ohio native did make a brief return to reality TV with his brother and bandmate, Drew Lachey, in 2015. The two men documented their efforts to open a bar in their hometown of Cincinnati on A&E’s Lachey’s: Raising the Bar.
“I did one with my brother, you know. But not one that’s based on my relationship, or my family,” he explained to Us on Wednesday. “And certainly not … I wouldn’t want to put my kids out there like that I don’t think that’s necessarily fair, not fair to them.”
Alongside his wife, the “What’s Left of Me” singer also appeared on season 25 of Dancing With the Stars. While Nick and partner Peta Murgatroyd were eliminated during week six of the show, Vanessa and Maks Chmerkovskiy lasted an additional week
“That was one of those things — I’m glad I did it. I’m glad I checked it off the list, and I can look back and say, ‘I have no regrets,’ [but] it was not one of the fonder moments in my life,” Nick told Us of DWTS. “If you enjoy dancing, it’s a great time. But for me it was just like, man, I never felt more uncomfortable in my life than being out there being judged at doing something that I don’t even doing. So it was a hard process.”

Nick Lachey Says He Will Never Do A Reality Show Like 'Newlyweds' Again

Nick and Vanessa Lachey of DWTS

Nick Lachey has done a 180 degree turn when it comes to reality TV. While the 98 Degrees singer is currently competing alongside his wife, Vanessa, on a reality show—ABC’s Dancing With the Stars—Lachey now says he draws the line there and will never be seen on another reality show that involves his family. In an interview with the Daily BeastLachey joked about starring in MTV’s Newlyweds, one of the pioneering reality shows in the early 2000s with his first wife, Jessica Simpson, saying he doesn’t want to be blamed for today’s “onslaught of reality television.”
Nick told the Daily Beast that the way Newlyweds was shot was much different than the way reality shows are shot today.
“In those days, it was much more fly on the wall, live your life, and we’ll document it all,” Nick explained. “And now you get a lot more scripted, a lot more—I don’t want to say it’s manipulated, but its less of a true reality than it was back in The Osbournes days.”
Nick added that while he’s living the “reality side” of things as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars, he would never consider doing a personal reality show again like he did in the early years of his marriage to Jessica Simpson.
“No. No, no, no,” Nick said.
“I’ve done Dancing with the Stars and other things, Lachey’s Bar, other things that fall into the reality TV genre. But no, I would never do another show where it involved in our lives, and especially now with kids.”
Lachey explained that the decision to do a reality show as something he made as an adult, but he would never do it now that he is responsible for three young lives. Lachey and his wife have three young children under the age of five.
“If nothing else, I would never do it because of them,” Lachey said.
“So I can safely say—well, I said I would never do Dancing with the Stars and apparently I lied because I’m doing it, but I can say unequivocally I would never, ever do a show like that again.”
Not only will Nick Lachey never do another reality show again, but he has no interest in re-watching his old one. Lachey said once was enough for his four-year marriage to Simpson and he admitted he has never gone back and watched old episodes of the MTV reality show, which ran for three seasons, from 2003 to 2005. The show followed the early days of Nick and Jessica’s marriage and played on the “dumb blonde” stereotype which was exaggerated after Simpson questioned if she was eating chicken or fish when she opened a can of Chicken of the Sea tuna.
“I haven’t, and I’m sure you can imagine why,” Nick said of rewatching Newlyweds episodes. “That was a chapter in my life that was…well, I lived it, and I’m not in a hurry to go back and live it again. I couldn’t be happier with where my life has taken me, and I don’t see any reason to ever look back. So I’ve never watched it since.”
