Nick Lachey Hangs Out At The Almay Simply American Experience

The tour will travel across the country this summer, celebrating the people, places and occasions that best exemplify the American spirit. As part of Almay’s collaboration with the USO, Almay is honoring women of the U.S. military and veterans by encouraging people to share their Simply American moments using the hashtag #SimplyAmerican. In addition to the brand’s $250,000 contribution to the USO, Almay will donate one dollar for every share on social media.
This morning, Nick Lachey was in New York City to kick off Almay’s ‘Simply American Experience’ which will be traveling across the country this summer. Nick showed off his American spirit at Almay’s Kissing Booth.

Yesterday Nick Lachey filmed his VH1 show “Big Morning Buzz Live” from 36,000 feet in the air on a JetBlue plane. Nick was joined by his co-host Michelle Buteau, guest Rachael Ray and Marian Hill, who performed on the flight en route to Austin for SXSW. The 36K episode airs tomorrow at 9am ET/8am CT on VH1.
VH1’s hit morning show “Big Morning Buzz Live SXSW trip is an entire show filled with musical performances, celebrity guests and lifestyle demos all aboard a JetBlue A320 aircraft headed to Austin and airing on Friday, March 20th at 9am ET/8am CT.
Giving new meaning to “in-flight entertainment,” the sultry and breakout electronic pop duo Marian Hill performed their latest hit in front of a plane full of fans. Plus, VH1 You Oughta Know artist alum Ella Henderson gave the “Buzz” gang and unsuspecting customers and fans the ultimate airport sendoff by performing her hit single, “Ghost” as part of JetBlue’s Live From T5 Concert Series. JetBlue’s award-winning Live From T5 Concert Series featured surprise performances exclusively for ticketed customers. The series transformed the travel experience by producing free, live entertainment for customers traveling through their state-of-the-art home terminal – Terminal 5 – at JFK in New York. The episode airs Friday, March 20th at 9am ET/8am CT.
Upon arrival in Austin, “Big Morning Buzz Live” headed to Cedar Door for an all-star musical lineup at Palladia’s Epic Awesome Showcase. The showcase, which will appear in the second SXSW-themed episode, was hosted by Ingrid Michaelson and feature performances by Swedish singer-songwriter Tove Lo, English electronica trio Years & Years, up-and-comer Seinabo Sey, German duo Milky Chance, electronic musician Robert DeLong and rising musician Elle King.
Nick and Michelle keep the SXSW festivities going by hitting local hotspots including Franklin Barbeque and a culinary tour de force of the best food trucks in Austin. Nick and Michelle will also be joined by guest co-host and Grammy Award-winning artist Bridget Kelly. This SXSW-based episode, airs Monday, March 23rd at 9am ET/8am CT.

Nick Lachey and his co-host Michelle Buteau will take to the skies on Friday morning as they host "Big Morning Buzz Live" from 36,000 feet in the air.
The VH1 morning show partnered with JetBlue Airlines for a special pre-taped broadcast inside a chartered flight from New York to South by Southwest in Austin. The episode will air on Friday, March 20 at 9 a.m.
Headlines & Global News had the opportunity to join the flight and watch as the hosts, their guests (including Rachael Ray) and the crew navigated the tight quarters to shoot a complete episode up in the clouds.
Before takeoff, we sat down with Lachey and Buteau to talk about their expectations for the ride and what has been the best part about hosting "Big Morning Buzz Live" so far.
Headlines & Global News: What was the idea behind taping the show on a charter flight?
Nick Lachey: We were excited to go to South by Southwest. I've never been. Michelle has never been. So it's a great opportunity to go do a show from there. Obviously, we do music every day on our show. It's a big part of what we do but it's also a big part of what JetBlue does. They've done concerts from here in Terminal 5 [at John F. Kennedy International Airport]. They really embrace and support music as well on their airline. They talked to us about, maybe we do a musical performance on a flight and then we took it one step further and said, "Well, why don't we do a whole show on the plane?" So we put our heads together and came up with this concept of doing an entire episode from a chartered plane on JetBlue. They've been great to work with. They're super excited about doing it and so are we. It's a perfect partnership.
Michelle Buteau: It's great. Morning shows, not that they can become mundane but it's a lot of the same stuff, and when you give the hosts and the writers and the producers an opportunity to say, "OK, we're going to be 36,000 feet in the air. What can we do legally in this space?" People are excited. It boosts the morale, too. We can do something somewhere different. Sort of like a new sex move when you've been married for seven years. You know what I mean?
Nick: It's true.
HNGN: How has it been hosting the show for each of you so far? (Nick took over as host of "BMBL" in January 2014; Michelle signed onto co-host in September 2014 after previously serving as a panelist and guest co-host.)
Nick: It's a blast. I wouldn't still be doing it if it wasn't fun every day. I get to work with this beautiful face every day (points to Michelle). No, we have a great group. It's like a family. I feel it 'svery interesting just to meet all the different [people], like today I got to interview Colin Quinn. I grew up watching him. I probably never would have had the chance to meet or talk to him. I get to do that on the show.
Michelle: It's been super fun. They don't drug test so I love that. Just kidding. They totally give me 48 hours before they did that. Just kidding!
I was guest co-hosting for a while. It just seemed like a natural fit. It feels like a second family, a home away from home. This is our first road trip together, which is super fun. I just hope nobody f**ks up because then we'd have to get them out of the group.
But what's great about the show is that I've never been on a show where half the guests, more than half the guests, are excited to meet Nick. They're like, "Oh my God, Nick Lachey is going to interview me." They get excited just as much as we do.
HNGN: One of the things that's cool about this show is how it introduces new music. How is it providing that platform for these new artists?
Nick: That was a big part of what drew me to the show to begin with is the identity of having live music every day on the show. Obviously, it's my background. I've literally come to work countless times and walked away like, "Wow, that's a great band." I got their album afterward. So the show has introduced me to a bunch of great new artists which is a cool thing about what we do every day.
Michelle: We have this campaign called, "You Oughta Know," where we introduce new artists. Sometimes I'm like, "I've never heard of this person," and then two weeks later they are everywhere. It's really nice to be in the know. The show keeps me cool. Otherwise I'd be like, "Please, honey," with my v-necks and lip gloss.
HNGN: What are you two expecting from the show today on this JetBlue flight?
Michelle: Just debauchery.
Nick: Mayhem.
Michelle: Can you wall twerk on a plane?
Nick: Altitude seems to do something to the brain. So this is going to be nuts, but it will be a lot of fun.
Michelle: Everyone's doing this for the first time, like the camera guys, us. So we don't know what's going to happen. Again, like trying out a new sex move.

Nick Lachey on His New Album & Favorite 98 Degrees Song

Former 98 Degrees frontman Nick Lachey is back with a solo album covering his favorite movie songs.

His heyday with the iconic late ‘90s and early ‘00s boy band 98 Degrees may be over, but Nick Lachey’s star continues to rise. The VH1 Big Morning Buzz Live host has a lot to celebrate right now—his fourth solo album “Soundtrack of My Life,” a compilation of his favorite songs from movies, debuts today, he’s expecting child number two with his wife, Vanessa Minnillo Lachey, and he and his brother Drew are realizing their longtime dream of opening up a sports bar in their hometown of Cincinnati.
We caught up with Lachey to find out how he selected the tracks for “Soundtrack of My Life,” what his favorite 98 Degrees song really is, and why he's “excited and intimidated all at the same time” to have a baby girl.
Why was it the right time in your life to make an album called Soundtrack of My Life?
NICK LACHEY: This is actually a project that started many, many years ago and I started recording it quite a while ago. I always knew I wanted to do a cover album, but I wasn’t quite sure what angle I wanted to take with it. And as I began thinking about it, I couldn’t think of anyone who had done a project based around movie soundtracks. I’ve always been such a fan of the marriage between film and movies and how one complements the other, and I thought, what a great way to pay tribute to some of those special moments and do some songs that were meaningful to me.

I always knew I wanted to do a cover album, but I wasn’t quite sure what angle I wanted to take with it. That was one that Vanessa and I—it kind of became our song and we had it performed at our [joint] wedding shower so I definitely knew I had to put that one on there. And other ones, like [Armageddon’s] “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith—just such a huge, monster song and I’m a huge fan of Bruce Willis so I’m like wow, I should definitely do that one. “Streets of Philadelphia” by Bruce Springsteen is from another very, very poignant movie, Philadelphia. I’m one of these sappy guys that actually enjoys crying in movies. I like to be moved, I like to be emotionally touched by what I’m seeing and music is such a big part of that, so I tried to find songs that definitely touched that nerve.

Taking it back a little bit to the 98 Degrees days—you did a reunion tour with Boyz II Men and New Kids on the Block recently. Would you do another tour with 98 Degrees again?
NL: We had a great time doing that whole project, getting back together. I would never close the door on doing something again with those guys. It was a blast.

What is your favorite 98 Degrees song?
NL: If I had to pick one it would probably be “I Do,” just because it’s been a part of so many peoples’ wedding days. It’s kind of the ultimate honor, the ultimate tribute, for someone to pick your song to be a part of the most special day of their lives.

You and your wife are expecting a baby girl. Congratulations! Are you excited to have a girl now that you have a son?
NL: I am excited and intimidated all at the same time. I love the heck out of my son, I can’t imagine loving any child more, but I also think that it’s just going to be a completely different experience with a girl. That relationship that everyone talks about between a father and a daughter, is one that I’m excited to experience first-hand.

You’re hosting Big Morning Buzz Live on VH1 these days. What’s it like to take your experience as a pop culture icon and interview people who are also pop culture icons?
NL: It’s fun. For instance, I had Michelle Williams from Destiny’s Child on and I’ve known Michelle and toured with Michelle before she was even in Destiny’s Child. So it was great to see her. And we had O-Town who I toured with as well back in the 2000s [on the show]. So sometimes it’s a little bit of a walk down memory lane and great to reconnect with people you do know, and other times you get a chance to meet someone that you’ve never met before and sit down and get to know them. Having been on the other side of an interview for most of my career, I try to bring that consciousness to it. I know what interviews have felt good to me and I try to bring that sensibility to my interviews. My goal is for everyone to walk out of our studio and say, hey that was a blast, I definitely want to come back and do that again.

You and your brother Drew are also opening up a bar in Cincinnati and you have an upcoming A&E series, Lachey's Bar, about it. How did the idea for a bar come about and what kind of bar will it be?
NL: It’ll be a sports bar and restaurant. It’s more like a sports lounge, actually. I’m a huge sports fan, specifically of Cincinnati teams, my hometown. So, opening a place like this is something I’ve thought about and wanted to do for a long, long time. It’s looking like mid-December we’re going to have our grand opening and it’ll all be documented on A&E.

Nick Lachey Reveals Nostalgic Stories Behind 'Soundtrack of My Life'
There’s nothing more exciting to a ’90s girl than boy band news, and Nov. 11 marks a new era for 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey with the release of Soundtrack of My Life. Although this isn’t his first solo record, it’s a fun new concept that doubles up on the nostalgia as he covers iconic tracks from some of his favorite films. To celebrate the next big step in Lachey’s career, I talked to him about the process of narrowing down the 10 tracks on the album — which surprisingly only had one painful cut — and how he put a new spin on each and every one.
During the selection process, it was all about finding songs that spoke to him. ”I think every song means something to me on a personal level. Either a moment in a film that really grabbed me or a memory,” Lachey shares. “For instance, ‘What a Wonderful World’ has been done in a lot of films, frankly, but I remember it from Good Morning Vietnam. I remember watching it with my dad for a first time as a kid and him having to explain to me what the Vietnam conflict was about. And it became all the more poignant with the unfortunate passing of Robin Williams, because he was just brilliant in that film.”
When it comes to making these covers his own, Lachey knows he can’t compete against the likes of Steven Tyler or Peter Gabriel. Instead, he chooses to put his own spin on it instead of transforming it into an unrecognizable new song. “It’s a tough line to walk when you’re covering well-known hit songs like these. They’re so iconic when they’re done the first time,” he says. “I can’t look at it as a competition of which one was better. You have to make it your own. But at the same time, you want to kind of pay homage to it and make sure you’re doing the same song.”
Soundtrack of My Life is filled with an eclectic mix of music, ranging from classics like Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia” to more modern hits like Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris,” but there was one lesser-known song that didn’t quite make the cut. As Lachey explains, it’s just because “not that many people know” his favorite song — though you may recognize it if you like J Lo. “It’s by a singer named Glenn Lewis and it was from a film called Maid in Manhattan, the Jennifer Lopez movie. It’s a great song written by Robin Thicke called ‘Fall Again’ and it’s always been one of my favorite songs,” he reveals. Lachey wanted to make sure that people can really recognize the tracks he chose for Soundtrack of My Life, but he hinted that if Volume 2 of his covers album happens, maybe it will be on there.
Moving forward, he’s going to try to strike a balance between covers and original music, which he says is difficult to do. Lachey’s last traditional solo album was 2006’s What’s Left of Me, and he went on to release a selection of lullabies — aptly titled A Father’s Lullaby — in 2013. With those behind him, he’s ready to just focus on “singing great songs,” no matter who writes them. He is ready to pen his own material, though, hinting that the next album you we see from him will “probably be another original album.” Could there be more up Lachey’s sleeve than he’s hinting at? Over almost two decades in the spotlight, he has worn many hats, ranging from musician to reality star to host, but there is one thing he doesn’t plan on pursuing anytime soon: acting.
“I think there’s a reason you haven’t seen me do a lot of acting, because I’m not a very good actor,” he admits with a laugh. “I’ve done a handful of stuff and it’s always been fun … but opportunities have taken me in other directions and hosting is something I really enjoy and am having fun doing right now. But you know, never say never — you never know what the future holds in that regard. But as of now, it’s not anything that I’m pursuing actively.”
