Local Choir Competition Will Be Hosted by Drew Lachey

As a dealership that sells used cars in Cincinnati OH, McCluskey Automotive is always on the lookout for the best news and events happening around Cincinnati. There are a ton of fun things to do in this great city on a daily basis, and incredible events get brought into town that are always worth mentioning. If you are a fan of singing competitions like The Voice, and American Idol, then you may want to listen up. If you have a great voice, and know others that can also carry a tune, then you definitely want to listen up.

Cincinnati’s very first region-wide choral competition is happening this April 9. The event is an exciting one, and is being hosted by celebrity Drew Lachey, ot 98 Degrees fame. The competition will feature a total of ten different choirs from ten local companies to compete on the stage at the Aronoff Center on April 9. Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third Bank, Duke Energy, Horseshoe Casino, GE Aviation, TriHealth, and American Modern Insurance are among the companies that will be competing. An eleventh team will be chosen by a fan vote starting on March 17. Any local group or choir can submit a video to be entered for a chance to compete on April 9. Submission guidelines and rules can be found here. The submitted videos will be posted on YouTube and be up for a vote starting on March 17.

The choral competition will be raising money for the ArtsWave Community Campaign – a local non-profit organization that is dedicated to being a leader in the arts community of Cincinnati. Tickets for the event will likely sell out, so be sure to get yours now! The show begins at 7pm, and tickets range in price from $20 to $50. We hope to see you there, and who knows – we might even see you on center stage!

Winner of competition will sing national anthem at a Reds game

CINCINNATI —A new choral competition is coming to Cincinnati.

The CincySings Competition will be hosted by Drew Lachey.

CincySings will be the first region-wide choral competition for Tri-State businesses.

“Everybody from Duke, to P&G, GE, Humana, American Modern, Fifth Third, Tri Health, Cincinnati Children's, and I'm missing another one. They all do talent shows and they crown a winner, and all those winners and one wild card also from Children's are coming to the Aronoff Center on April 9 for a battle of the bands,” Lachey said.

The Horseshoe Casino and Kroger will also be participating in CincySings.

The winner will get to sing the national anthem at a Reds game this season.

All of the money raised from CincySings will go to benefit ArtsWave, which supports art and culture in the Tri-State.

Drew Lachey stopped by the studio to discuss his upcoming event CincySings. Behind the scenes, I had a chance to ask him 19 personal questions!

19 things you didn't know about Drew Lachey: 

1. Where did the Lachey family grow up? College Hill.
2. What's a new Cincinnati restaurant that you like? Sotto, A Tavola and Bakersfield.
3. Favorite sports team? My grandfather taught at UC so I have to say the Bearcats!
4. Favorite dish to cook? A bowl of cereal.
5. What other languages can you speak? About four different languages to order a beer. 
6. What's your favorite social media app? Twitter. 
7. Where did you come up with the name 98 degrees? It's representative of the mood we wanted our music to create. It's like steamy, hot, body heat.  All our love songs!
8. Favorite TV show? House of Cards, Game of Thrones, Walking Dead and Homeland.
9. First car? 1981 Toyota Celica that I bought for $300.
10. Last restaurant you ate at? Skyline!
11. Last movie you saw? Frozen.
12. Mustard or ketchup on your hot dog? Mustard.
13. Favorite holiday? Thanksgiving.
14. If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you meet? I love history so maybe FDR. 
15. One of your biggest fears? I'm not a big fan of rodents. 
16. Dogs or cats? Dogs! 
17. What's your Starbucks order? I don't drink coffee.
18. Laying on the beach or skiing in the mountains? Go to California and you can do both in the same day!

Drew Lachey will be on The Xtra Tuesday morning to talk about CincySings, a new singing competition April 9 at The Aronoff Center.

Teams of employee choirs from the 2014 ArtsWave Community Campaign will face off in this competition that will continue Cincinnati's choral tradition. The winners of the CincySings competition will receive a special prize package from ArtsWave and have the chance to sing the national anthem at a Cincinnati Reds game.

The ArtsWave campaign supports more than 100 arts and cultural organizations with grants and services.

Lachey will host the contest.

Sexy Dancing With the Stars pro Anna Trebunskaya has been paired with Season 2 champ Drew Lacheyfor the All-StarSeason 15. Anna was paired with the runner-up that season, Jerry Rice, so she knows first hand what a powerhouse Drew can be.

Surprisingly, however, when we chatted with Anna at the 2012 Do Something Awardsshe told us that she actually considers Drew an underdog! Read on to find out why.

Wetpaint Entertainment: What were your thoughts on All Stars?

Anna Trebunskaya: Oh boy, I said, that’s going to be a tough season. Everybody’s going to kick up the gear. Because they’ve all done it. They all know what it is, they all know what they need to do, they all know what they’re going to go through, so they’re all going into it with a much clearer understanding and more of a commitment.

You’ve got six champions. That’s crazy!

It’s amazing! But it kind of sucks for the people who won, in a way, because they might not win. But I’m sure they’re all aware of it. I’m just looking forward to it, I can’t even describe how excited I am.

How did you feel about getting paired up with a winner?

Not only is he a winner, but Drew and I have a history together, because Season 2 he got first place and I was second with Jerry Rice. And now he’s my partner! So I’m like, “What are you trying to tell me, universe?”

Maybe that it’s time for victory.

Really!

How is he as a dancer?

He’s very good. He’s very musical, he’s very rhythmical, he’s precise, compact. He has so many great qualities…and he can sing. He’s sharp, fast, really coordinated and because he’s a musician he can really feel that beat.

Can you push him?

Absolutely. You can always make a diamond shine more.

Have you talked to the rest of your cast mates about how they feel?

I’ve talked to Pamela Anderson and she’s like, “Why am I in this? I don’t know!” She’s like, “I’m not sure why,” but she loves it. And I’m very happy that she’s paired up with Tristan [MacManus] because they’re just going to be one dreamy, sexy couple.

Who do you think is the underdog this time around?

Drew. He’s the underdog. There’s six champions. There’s Gilles Marini who’s an absolute sex bomb, there’s Kirstie Alley and she has a lot of huge fans, so Drew is the underdog!

Drew Lachey to host two shows at World Choir Games

Cincinnati native Drew Lachey – a member of Grammy-nominated 98 Degrees and winner of the second season of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” – will emcee the two Champions Concerts for the 2012 World Choir Games.

Lachey will host the concerts at 2 to 4 p.m. July 8 at the Aronoff Center and 2 to 4 p.m. July 14 at Music Hall. Each concert will feature the choral “champions” of that week’s competitions.

Lachey, 35, is a graduate of the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, where he and his wife, Lea Dellecave, also an SCPA grad, will hold a Musical Theater summer camp in August. He’s a Broadway star (Rent, Spamalot) and has hosted several television shows. In 2006, he and partner Cheryl Burke won “Dancing with the Stars.”

“I moved back to Cincinnati with my family in December of 2009 because this is such a great place to live, to raise children and to be involved in the arts community,” Lachey said. “Being a part of the World Choir Games gives me the opportunity to talk about all that.”

About 15,000 participants, including 355 choirs from 48 countries, are expected to participate in the 2012 World Choir Games, the “Olympics” of choral music that is held every two years. The seventh Games will take place from July 4–14 in Cincinnati, the first U.S. host city.

“The Champions Concerts feature some of the best choirs in the world,” said Jelena Dannhauer, project manager for Interkultur, the Germany-based owner and producer of the World Choir Games. “These are truly exhilarating and remarkable performances. The choirs are anxious to show the audience why they are the champions.”

Drew:  It is a lot of fun. It is the same as the televised version only in the casino. And some people have a drink or 2 which always makes things a little more interesting. Come on down!

Drew:  I have a couple of friends in Vegas so usually with them. Of course there are great shows and plenty to do so it is hard to be bored there. I try to stay away from the blackjack though

Drew:  This is a common question. The reason is , the curriculum that we are teaching THIS YEAR is a little too mature for younger kids. Plus voices are changing still

Comment From Judy Albers   I think you are a great as an emcee/host. I liked you hosting dancing with the stars and also listen to you on Q102 when you fill in. Do you prefer interacting that way more than peforming on stage? You just seem very natural at it.

Drew:  They are completely different but I enjoy them both. There is something fun about being able to engage people as yourself but the rush that comes from performing is like no other feeling.

Drew:  We realize that it isn't cheap but in order for us to bring in this caliber of teacher and offer a cutting edge program it is necessary. In a perfect world it would be free for everybody that has a true passion for performing.

Drew:  In my opinion, the best way to prevent all bullying is by teaching tolerance. Whether it is based on race, sexuality, weight, whatever. We all have a responsibility to lead by example. The kids have to learn the behavior from somewhere

Drew:  The process of doing a reading is a painfully long one. It could be years before the show makes it's way to Broadway. It was a fun show to do though. Lol

Drew:  She is as natural of a performer as there is! Every time I watch her dance I get chills but she is happy where she is. She is teaching and doing choreography for the Exhale Dance Tribe which is where here passion lies now.
