OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — As Friday After Five closes out it’s 25th season Friday night, the final concert will include members of some of the most famous Boy Bands.
The ATCK or “All the Cool Kids” concert will feature Grammy Award winning Boy Band artists, A.J. McClean of the Backstreet Boys, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees, Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC, and their friend Chris Blue, season 12 winner of The Voice.
‘All The Cool Kids’ will “ATCK” the Ruoff Party Stage in Owensboro on September 3 to say Bye-Bye-Bye to the 25th Anniversary season.
Daybreak anchor Jake Boswell and meteorologist Joe Bird had a chance to check in with Jeff Timmons and DJ Lux Friday morning.
You can meet one-on-one with A.J. McClean, Jeff Timmons, Chris Kirkpatrick, Chris Blue, and DJ LUX. You’ll also get to grab autographs and have your picture taken with them before the show. Then you’ll get to watch the concert from a designated VIP location.
The concert, happening September 3 at the Ruoff Stage in Owensboro, is free to attend.
It was the battle of the boy bands in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Three of the world’s biggest male pop groups collided on stage in Sin City during a performance showcasing some of their greatest hits on Saturday.

The musicians came together for the Victoria’s Voice Foundation’s “An Evening to Save Lives: Music for Life” fundraiser, hosted by Timmons.
The foundation was started by Westgate Resorts president and Queen of Versailles star, David Siegel, and his wife, Jackie Siegel, after their 18-year-old daughter, Victoria, died of a drug overdose in 2015. The organization works to fight the opioid epidemic by helping reduce drug experimentation, addiction and overdoses among youth, particularly amid an increase in fatal overdoses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before they hit the stage, Timmons, Kirkpatrick and McLean sat down with ET Canada, sharing how as parents, Victoria’s passing and the Siegels’ subsequent work hits close to home.
“We’re all fathers, so we’re all very protective,” said McLean, dad to daughters Ava, 8, and Lyric, 4. “And, something like this is very close to the chest for me, being in recovery and battling my own demons, so to be here to spread awareness and be supportive is what matters most.”
McLean, 43, has been open about his sobriety struggles, freely discussing the topic on his podcast, Pretty Messed Up. Having marked 18 months sober, he admitted being back in the party town of Las Vegas, where the Backstreet Boys wrapped a two-year Larger Than Life residency in 2019, has been testing.
“It was a bit stressful yesterday, being back [and] with things reopening,” he said. “I haven’t been around as many people in a tight space in a year-and-a-half, so I was a little anxious, but knowing that I’ve got a great support group back home [helps.] I just got off a nice sober boys’ trip over the past week, so I’ve been able to build a good foundation [while] not being on the road or here in Las Vegas.”
As for how the pop stars will teach their kids about drugs, temptations and addiction, Kirkpatrick noted the value of resources like the Siegels’ book, Victoria’s Voice: Our Daughter’s Dying Wish to Share Her Diary.
“You can give them tools to research and find out for themselves, because it’s already hard enough with kids,” said Kirkpatrick, who has a 3-year-old son, Nash, with wife Karly. “Thinking back to when I was young and the things I wanted to try and do – you don’t want to be that parent that tells your kid, ‘No,’ all the time because then they’re just going to want to do it. You’ve got to say, ‘I’m gonna let you make your decisions, but these are the repercussions.’”
Kirkpatrick, 49, and Timmons, 48, commended Victoria’s Voice for bringing awareness to how the opioid crisis is impacting youth.
“They have this program called the Victory Clubs and incentivize kids to not only become educated, but educate other people,” Timmons said about the program, which rewards drug-free youth with perks like school parking spaces or movie tickets. “The opioid epidemic continues to grow. There isn’t a demographic that it doesn’t affect, so it’s a universal problem.”
After Soul of Motown, who have a residency at Westgate Las Vegas, opened the concert with hits like “My Girl”, Jackie Siegel shared how Victoria was a huge fan of the artists playing the fundraiser, which took place on the eve of the sixth anniversary of her passing. “She grew up with all the performers. That was her era and I know she’s loving it.”
“There’s been some very iconic performers at the Westgate International Theater,” Jackie also said. “Elvis Presley and many others. But nothing has been as iconic and important as tonight’s Music for Life because tonight, we’re going to save lives.”
Singer-songwriter Victoria Dennis performed “Perfect Storm,” a powerful track she wrote after reading Victoria’s diary entries, before The Voice season 12 winner, Chris Blue, got the audience on their feet with his new single “Moon.”
DJ Lux kept fans dancing with a party-pumping set, which continued with McLean performing the Backstreet Boys’ “The Call”. Kirkpatrick then joined McLean on-stage, noting what the two have in common. “We both had five people in our band, we both were known as the guy with the hair – mine was on my head, yours was on your face – and we both had Johnny Wright as a manager,” Kirkpatrick said.
“My band was known for dancing – you’re known for Dancing with the Stars,” he added, before singing *NSYNC’s “Tearin’ Up My Heart”.
“That was a great song, but I got one that’s better,” McLean responded, before launching into “I Want It That Way.”
Kirkpatrick reacted with “Bye Bye Bye”, before McLean hit back with “Larger Than Life”.
At that point, Timmons crashed the sing-off, saying, “You guys weren’t the only boy bands during that time!”
“We were the only ones that mattered,” Kirkpatrick fired back.
Undeterred, Timmons performed a remix of 98 Degrees’ late ’90s hit “The Hardest Thing”, before leaving McLean and Kirkpatrick to their song battle.
Instead, McLean declared past rivalries over and announced he and Kirkpatrick have a new single “Air” with their side band ATCK (All the Cool Kids). The group includes McLean, Kirkpatrick, DJ Lux and drummer Ryan Stevenson.
After debuting the track, McLean performed his new solo single “Love Song Love” for the first time live. “There’s been a lot of negative energy around the world lately,” he said, introducing the song, from his forthcoming EP. “We need more love. We need more acceptance. We need more tolerance. We need more compassion. Real love conquers all. Love wins.”
He closed the show with “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” before guests hit an afterparty at the hotel’s extravagant penthouse floor, where late Presley stayed during his residency days.
Fans who couldn’t make it to Las Vegas for the fundraiser may soon get another chance to catch at least one of the show’s headliners performing in town again. “Any of you guys happen to catch the Larger Than Life Las Vegas residency?” McLean teased. “A little birdie told me that Backstreet Boys might be coming back to Vegas sooner than you think!”
They were seen as rivals throughout the era of millennium pop music, and now the ultimate boy band showdown takes place as members of the Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, 98 Degrees and O-Town punch, kill and shoot each other in Syfy's upcoming zombie western, Dead 7.
Written, produced by and starring Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, the post-apocalyptic flick follows seven renegades battling a zombie plague and ET has exclusive photos that show the boy banders like you've never seen them before -- as villains, cowboys and western gunslingers.
"The joke was that you didn’t know whether to shoot the zombies or the other guys," laughs *NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick about starring alongside his longtime rivals.

"I got to kill a couple of other boy banders and that was fun," adds Backstreet Boy AJ McLean. "It was like a secret revenge, even though none of us ever had issues with each other."
Of course, what fans are dying to know is, what did a bunch of '90s heartthrobs do together when the cameras stopped rolling?

"Well, there was nothing to do in Butte, Montana, so we would go to a local dive bar and have some drinks and some laughs," says Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees. "The most memorable moment was when we were all playing video games in Joey [Fatone]'s room. It was a great bonding experience -- we formed a brotherhood based on our similar experiences being in the business and the ups and downs of being in a boy band. It certainly has unique qualities and experiences to it. We had fun at a karaoke night, as well. AJ did an incredible impromptu DJing job!"
That epic karaoke night saw the musicians descending on a local joint, where a few quiet drinks turned into an extraordinary boy band mash-up. In what onlookers described as "once-in-a-lifetime magic," Joey and Jeff joined Howie Dorough to perform the Backstreet Boys smash, 'I Want It That Way.'
"Nick and I were sitting there having iced teas, Howie was having water and some of the other guys were letting loose," recalls AJ, who plays villain Johnny Vermillion. "Nick and I got up to do some DJing and suddenly the rest of the guys started coming up and we started singing each other's songs. Some of the guys were singing, 'Backstreet's Back,' and we did O-Town's 'Liquid Dreams.' It was so much fun."

"But my most memorable day was the first day we got to Butte," he says. "Myself, Joey, Jeff and O-Town's Trevor, Jacob and Erik went to get something to eat and just sat like a bunch of dudes, talking about being parents and real sh*t like that. It was cool to find out how everyone came to be in their bands and Joey said some of the [*NSYNC] guys had really looked up to us. I was like, 'Wow, dude, we looked up to you guys as performers and dancers.' We've become closer now over a three-week period than over the past 20-plus years on the scene together."

While Nick, who plays hero Jack in Dead 7, credits "not having burnt bridges in the music industry" for allowing him to unite the pop stars, he himself missed out on much of the off-set fun, partly due to finding out that wife Lauren Kitt-Carter (who stars in the movie as Sirene) was pregnant with their baby boy, due on April 12.

“I was wearing so many hats on the film, so it was important for me to be on my game and make sure that I was professional,” says Nick, who developed the film with Sharknado production company, The Asylum. “I was trying to learn my lines, be prepared for what we were doing on-set and getting ready to do Dancing With the Stars. I had so much on my plate, but behind-the-scenes what nobody knew was that my wife was pregnant.

“There were things that were happening from the emotional side that made us suspect it initially, then towards the end of filming, we confirmed. So, I was in the room the majority of the time taking care of her!”

Having received his first video camera while growing up in Florida and directing his sisters and brother Aaron in home movies, Nick always dreamed of pursuing an acting career.

Due to frequent time away touring with BSB, he was limited to bit parts on shows like 8 Simple Rules and smaller films like The Pendant, so he decided to write his own script which he could star in at his leisure.
It would be eight years and a fan-fueled Indiegogo campaign later before Dead 7 came to fruition on day one of filming in Montana, last August. Blown away by the "wow moment," he remains "in awe" that the film will now be shared with the world. The movie airs on Syfy on April 1.

O-Town's Erik-Michael Estrada recalls the surrealness of glancing around at his peers during a lunch break during a bar scene. "It was the first time a representative of all the groups was there -- Fatone, Kirkpatrick, [Dan] Miller, Carter, McLean, Dorough and Timmons, as well as Art from Everclear and Jon Secada. I sat back, looked around and thought, ‘How the hell did Nick get all these guys to do this!?'"
Syfy debuted its boy band member-starring zombie Western Friday (April 1) and wow was there a lot happening.
It’s a “Magnificent 7” meets “Walking Dead” vehicle that manages to both take itself too seriously and not take itself seriously at all. But it was a lot of fun to watch our favorite ’90s boy band group members slaughter zombies — and be slaughtered themselves, because spoiler alert: No one makes it out alive.
Here’s the definitive ranking of the Backstreet Boys, NSync, O-Town and 98 Degrees hotties from “Dead 7.” It should also be noted that there were some kick-butt women in the movie — Carrie Keagan, Lauren Kitt-Carter and the insanely campy Debra Wilson — but none of them were tearin’ up our hearts with ’90s power ballads, so this is strictly for boy banders only.
Honorable Mention: Jon Secada
No, Jon Secada was not in a boy band, but he was the early-’90s heartthrob responsible for such hits as “Just Another Day” and “If You Go,” so shout-out to Sheriff Cooper, who turned into a zombie and had his head blown off by Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees.
No. 6: Howie Dorough
This BSB member played sharpshooter Vaquero, who really wasn’t all that noteworthy. Plus, he died because he was bitten by a large brothel zombie, which is definitely the lamest death. Sorry, Howie.
No. 5: Chris Kirkpatrick
NSync’s countertenor did not get nearly as good of a part as bandmate Joey Fatone. Mayor Shelby wasn’t in a good chunk of the movie, but he does trump Vaquero because he had a great slow-motion death.
No. 4: Jeff Timmons
Billy came in hard and fast, seeming like the possible main hero of the group until Nick Carter’s Jack came along. But in a nice twist, Jack and Billy weren’t fighting over Daisy Jane (Keagan). Instead, they had their own little bromance going on. Billy died in Jack’s arms in what was definitely the sweetest moment of the whole movie.
No. 3: Nick Carter
Who knew Nick Carter could don all black, sport a six-shooter and totally become the sexiest gunslinger this side of the Mississippi? Not only did he get to kill off the psychotic Apocalypta (Wilson), but he also gave the movie its final scene, having to shoot himself after sustaining a zombie bite so he wouldn’t turn on his real-life wife, Kitt-Carter.
No. 2: Erik-Michael Estrada
The only O-Town member in the film definitely got some of the best fight scenes, as his character Komodo was like a cowboy ninja. He also got to kill off A.J. McLean’s Johnny Vermillion, Apocalypta’s right-hand man.
No. 1: Joey Fatone and A.J. McLean
Fatone and McLean owe Carter, who wrote “Dead 7,” a big thank you for casting them as the most ridiculous characters in the movie. Fatone’s Whiskey Joe was a delight and he got easily the grossest death scene of the movie, while McLean was absolutely insane as Vermillion. Well done, fellas.

It’s the boy band zombie movie you never knew you wanted (and probably didn’t). And yet, it happened.
Syfy’s Dead 7 told the story of seven(ish) people who tried to save the world from some sort of zombie queen. It was a lot to take in, which is why we’ve rounded up everything we thought while watching.
First, to get you acquainted, here’s a rundown of the cast:

NEW YORK, April 1 (UPI) --Nick Carter says he always kept his fellow, former boy-band members in mind as he crafted characters for the new Syfy flick Dead 7.
Carter wrote and produced the mashup movie, and starred in it alongside many of his recording-artist friends, such as his fellow Backstreet Boys Howie Dorough andA.J. McLean; Chris Kirkpatrick and his NSYNC bandmate Joey Fatone; Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and Erik-Michael Estrada of O-Town.
"A.J.'s character, which is one of my favorite characters, when I had this idea, eight, nine years ago, writing it, I was on a tour bus next to these guys with my computer, writing it, looking at A.J. every, single day, thinking about: 'I really want him to be the villain. This is the kind of person I want him to be,'" Carter told UPI in a phone interview Tuesday. "So, yeah, he was tailored for that part and it was well-thought-out. Also, Joey... I always wanted Joey in the film and he was perfect for it because I watched him in the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding and watched him in The Cooler and I loved his personality. He's over-the-top. He's great. And, so, yeah, most of the people I tailored the parts after them and I thought about it because I wanted to play on people's strengths, as well. Because, look, I don't consider myself the greatest actor, but that was my problem going on auditions in Hollywood and, trying to fit into the acting world, just never worked for me. So I was like, 'Well, I'm going to try to do something and create it for myself and something I can learn and grow from.' And that's what I did with all the characters."
However, the popular musician and one-time Dancing with the Stars contestant admitted it was a long, bumpy road from when he first started penning the script to the ultimate unleashing of the finished Dead 7.
"I started eight years ago with a script called Dead West," he recalled. "I had the concept of zombies in a western setting, with a couple of boy-band cast members, maybe some sports stars and this idea. So, I had no idea what I was doing. Read a couple of books, screenwriting books, then started learning how to write on Final Draft and jotted down the screenplay idea and then it took eight years to get to this point after some crowdfunding and a movie that I was supposed to do -- called Evil Blessings -- and then I had to put that aside and change my mind to go back to Dead West because my director passed away for the Evil Blessings movie, so there were so many trials and tribulations and things that occurred that led to the decision of going with that screenplay and turning it into this movie Dead 7. So, it was a lot harder... and, so, it has been such a relief for it to finally come out, especially since it took so long."
Carter said he would love to act alongside his buddies again and wouldn't rule out writing another screenplay, but he insisted he is taking a wait-and-see approach to his plans until after audiences weigh in on the movie.
"I've done everything that I could. I put all my energy and effort into it, so if people enjoy it and like it, then, yes, I would love to do more," he emphasized. "Most people who make movies understand that they do it for the love it, for the creation, for the artistic side of it, regardless if it is a blockbuster movie or a B movie. It's all about how much fun it actually is to do."
Asked if he intentionally paid homage to the Mad Max film franchise and auteurQuentin Tarantino, Carter replied: "That's what I'm a fan of. I grew up watching the original Mad Max on repeat. The spaghetti westerns from Clint Eastwood. Those are in my blood. The zombie movies from Night of the Living Dead to Evil Dead, those are in my blood, what I grew up on. Quentin Tarantino is probably in my Top 3 favorite directors of all time. ....
"What you see is definitely a combination of all the twisted stuff that I've watched and experienced in my life," he laughed.
