Jeff Timmons and the Heather Trew Foundation Join Forces to Promote Organ Donations
98 Degrees Band Founder Urges Youth to Become Organ Donors and Provide the Gift of Life
NEW YORK, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire-HISPANIC PR WIRE/ -- Jeff Timmons, the founder of the pop band 98 Degrees, kicked off 2009 with a New Year's Resolution for all of his fans -- - sign up today to become organ donors offering the gift of life.(Photo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20090108/NY56781 )
Named the celebrity spokesperson for the newly formed Heather Trew Foundation, Timmons plans a series of public service announcements for radio and television to get the word out about organ donation.
"Jeff is excited to be part of the Heather Trew Foundation," said Ruben Malaret, Jeff's Manager and President of New York-based Celebrity PR. "He is going to reach out to his fan base and youth all over the world to speak about the importance of becoming an organ donor. More importantly, he will also encourage them to share the decision with their family and friends to make sure their wishes are granted at the time of need."
The Heather Trew Foundation was created by Dwight and Judy Trew the parents of Heather Trew, to educate the youth of the world, about the importance of being an organ donor. Heather Trew was an organ donation recipient early in her life due to eating undercooked meat at a picnic. While she unfortunately lost her battle against e-coli, her legacy lives on encouraging others to donate organs for those in need. Meanwhile, the foundation has also dedicated itself to urging Congress to adopt stricter policies in making sure beef is better checked for harmful bacteria such as e-coli.
Timmons is working on recording several public service announcements for the Heather Trew Foundation that will soon be running on television and radio stations worldwide. He is also in the process of producing his second solo CD, currently planned for release in the summer of this year.
More information about the Heather Trew Foundation -- including handy information on becoming an organ donor and donor cards printable directly from the organization's website -- can be found on the web at www.heathertrewfoundation.org. More details on Jeff Timmons, including information on his partnership with the Heather Trew Foundation can be found on his website at www.jefftimmons.com.

Jeff Timmons visits Project Rise
-Project Rise-
Jeff Timmons was in Boston with us for the Plymouth Rox Concert. During his visit, Rob Dixon, (Executive Director) and Jeff Gulko (Director of Development), gave us a very eye opening tour and overview of the Project Rise program and facility. I’ve never seen a class full of children so focused on learning. In the middle of summer too. It’s amazing that a program like this that is so beneficial to Boston’s youth doesn’t get more publicity.

ABOUT PROJECT RISE
Spearheaded by Executive Director, Rob Dixon
Project RISE was founded during the summer of 1993 as an experimental pilot program on the Thayer Academy campus in Braintree, MA. The Program focused on providing academic remediation in Mathematics, Language Arts, Multicultural history and Science to 18 sixth through eight grade academically high risk African American males in the Boston Public Schools.
The goal of the program was to motivate these students to believe they could succeed. In the effort to accomplish this goal, students were assigned to small classes and were given individualized and remedial instruction over a seven week period. In addition, students participated in cultural awareness classes to encourage them to appreciate their unique heritage. These classes, coupled with the concentration on academics, helped to raise the students self esteem. As a result, these students reentered their perspective schools in the fall of 1993 with improved attitudes about their culture and intellectual ability. This change in attitude positively impacted their academic performance. Learn More…. (http://www.projectrise.com)

SCPA goes with the show
MTV crews are filming episodes of Lachey-produced reality series scheduled to premiere this spring
By John Kiesewetter • jkiesewetter@enquirer.com • January 6, 2009That's what pop star/producer Nick Lachey says about School for Creative & Performing Arts students in his MTV reality show being shot at the school.
"I've been impressed how charismatic and talented these kids are," says Lachey, 35, the 1992 SCPA graduate who persuaded MTV to make the series here. It premieres in the spring.
"Our producers and directors on site feel very good about the quality of footage," says Lachey in his first interview about the "Fame"-like show since production started in August.
"It's been great. That's why MTV believes in my vision for the show."
TV crews have filmed on and off at the Over-the-Rhine school this school year, including preparation for "Cats" and "The Nutcracker." They're coming back this month, and planning to shoot the student performers periodically through May.
"We've found five or six key characters I consider the leads. Other students flow in and out of their lives. We're building toward graduation for our kids and their future," he says.
Viewers will see a ballerina, a hip-hop dancer and a musical theater student dreaming of Broadway, MTV says. Not another pop star?
"There are a lot of gifted and talented kids, but no one reminds me of myself," says Lachey, who studied vocal music, musical theater and drama, and instrumental music (saxophone) from seventh through 12th grades at SCPA.
What's very familiar to Lachey is the pressure to be perfect.
"This reminds me of my experience there, the high stakes and the drama," he says.
"I always equate SCPA to a football team: You compete to make the team. You compete to make the starting lineup. And every time you line up, the pressure is on to win - just like every time you take the stage, the pressure is on to execute.
"Everything you had been working on for all those years all comes down to that moment," he says.
Several crucial decisions haven't been made yet. The show has no name. (The working title is "Center Stage.") MTV and producers don't know if episodes will be 30 or 60 minutes, says Lachey, who starred in MTV's "Newlyweds" reality show with ex-wife Jessica Simpson.
The pilot, or prototype show, is an hour "because we thought we had too many strong stories for a half-hour. But I don't want to see the integrity of the show be compromised in any way by having to fill out an hour," he says.
Length of episodes could determine the number of shows, he says. He's producing the series with his manager Colton Gramm, Marc Platt ("Legally Blonde"), Mark Ford and Kevin Lopez (both from "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County").
"What's most important to us is telling a good story, if that takes eight, nine or 10 episodes. We will all collectively decide what's best for the show," he says.
It's also uncertain how much Lachey will be seen or heard on the show. He does an off-camera introduction for the pilot, explaining that he, Sarah Jessica Parker and Carmen Electra attended SCPA.
"This is a great show because of the kids. I don't want it to be about me," he says.
Lachey has resisted the temptation to watch filming at his alma mater. "They're in a great groove, and I didn't want to be a disruption or a distraction. I don't want one reality to affect another."
If ratings are good, MTV could order a second season. The contract approved by Cincinnati Public Schools a year ago says MTV will pay $10,000 for the pilot, and $10,000 for each episode. MTV has options for five more seasons, the contract says.
MTV executives were "shocked ... we were able to get access. I give a lot of credit to Cincinnati Public Schools and SCPA to let us showcase the students," Lachey says.
Lachey hopes viewers give an A+ to the show.
"The school is unique. And I think America will like what they see," he says.
"This will be a great thing for Cincinnati Public Schools and SCPA. I'm really proud of it, and I think the people of Cincinnati will be proud of it, too."

Vanessa Minnillo Puckers Up to Nick!
Well, Happy New Year to you too, Vanessa Minnillo!
The 28-year-old former MTV TRL hostess made the scene at the Diddy-hosted New Year's Eve bash at the Fontainebleau hotel's LIV nightclub in Miami Beach on Wednesday night. From the kissable expression on her face, it looked like she was getting ready to give her boyfriend, 35-year-old former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey, a New Year's kiss strong enough to bring out the engagement ring!
Perhaps Minnillo, whose new reality show True Beauty debuts on Monday, was merely rehearsing for her new gig?
After all, the Ashton Kutcher/Tyra Banks-produced program pits attractive contestants against each other in a stealth battle to prove their inner beauty. And what better way to emphasize the importance of inner beauty than to have a gorgeous gal like Vanessa twisting her lovely mug into a bit of a goofy expression?
That Vanessa is the consummate professional. With a tireless work ethic like that, she'll realize her goal of world domination in no time.
