You can’t take the boy out of the band. Nearly two decades after Nick Lachey and exploded into pop consciousness with 98 Degrees – and a dozen years since his memorable stint on reality TV hit Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica – the all-American guy, 43, still flirts with the limelight. We caught up with the father of three to learn about his group’s epic musical reunion, his recent turn (alongside his wife!) in a beloved tele-dancing contest and more.

OH, BROTHER!

It’s all in the family for Nick, whose younger brother, Drew Lachey, actually won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy on season 2 of Dancing with the Starsand, of course, shares the spotlight as one of the members of 98 Degrees! Speaking to Hello! Canada about his years with his bandmates, Nick offers this as the guys look ahead to their tour: “We all have more of an appreciation for it now. The first time, we almost didn’t have a chance to exhale. Now that we’re all older, we have more respect for one another.”

ON THE DANCE FLOOR

"It’s such a whirlwind every week [doing Dancing with the Stars]. It can be a stark contrast to the dance you’d learned the week before. You’re constantly setting the reset button. I said the other day: the muscles that hurt from last week are getting in the way of this week’s dance! But it’s about keeping a fresh outlook and a fresh enthusiasm. Definitely, there’s a psychological component to the competition."

HITTING THE ROAD

"It’s our 20th anniversary [as a group] and we thought it was a great opportunity to do another Christmas album, Let It Snow. Collectively, our favourite album to date was the first one we did [the 1999 holiday-themed This Christmas]. So that was the idea, and we decided to top it up with doing a tour again [in 31 “cities!]."

‘TIS THE SEASON

"Timeless, classical arrangements: we stuck with that. There are so many Christmas songs to pick from so that was the easy part. We do “Silent Night” – an a cappella version. [Another notable song: “Run Rudolph” with a Motown sound.]"

THERE, BUT NOT THERE

"I had a 98 Degrees tattoo [from their initial go-around as a group], but I actually had it covered. It’s no reflection on the guys! It was just something that felt right at the moment. But it’s weird: it’s still there, just covered. I know it’s there."

LAST GREAT VACAY

"We went to Cabo San Lucas. Rented a house."

LAST SHOW HE BINGED

"This Is Us. It’s a such a well-done show – and being parents now, there’s a lot to relate to. Before that, we watched Thirteen Reasons Why."

FIRST JOB?

"I was a pizza cook. If I’m having a pizza now, I’m kind of a pepperoni- sausage-green peppers-onions guy. I’m getting hungry now!"
