For the first time ever, "American Ninja Warrior" brought its high-flying, big-splashing act to Cincinnati.
Contestants hopped on their toes, pumped out push-ups and held pull-ups for muscle-searing seconds. They also encouraged each other as they awaited their chance at television glory.
The NBC production lit up Downtown along Second Street on Friday night, the first of two recorded events that will air July 1.
There was Marcelino Riley, who has been training on a playground in Chicago, zipping across the first obstacle.

Do I know any of these ninjas?

Sure do.
Drew Lachey of 98 Degrees gave the course his best.
And Ryan Sutter, a winner of "The Bachelorette" was competing, too.
Jesse "Flex" Labreck also competed. Part of her training routine, sessions of which can last three hours, include rock climbing and many pull-ups.
She's "not strong for a girl, just strong," and welcomed the show's shift to include more women, she said.

So what was the vibe?

The crowd chanted for the contestants, some of whom encouraged them with a wave of the hand to raise the decibel.
One contestant casually did a backflip, to raucous applause.
Many in the crowd encouraged Drew Lachey, shouting his name during his attempt.
