GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Grand Rapids Schools announced Friday, June 6, that Coit Creative Arts Academy was one of the winners of VH1 Save The Music Foundation's KEYS+KIDS Inaugural Piano Grant Program.
Singer and VH1 Big Morning Buzz Live's host Nick Lachey recently made the announcement that Coit is among 10 schools across the country that will receive a electronic music package worth $10,000, including a Yamaha Upright Hybrid piano. The grant is in partnership with singer, songwriter and pianist Sara Bareilles.
"We are extremely excited to use this state of the art hybrid piano, PA system and microphone for all of our future concerts and performances," said Dave Dublis, creative arts specialist for Coit, a K-5 theme school, located at 617 Coit Ave. NE, with 284 students.
"A donation of this magnitude will help our already growing creative arts curriculum improve immensely."
The VH1 Save The Music campaign works to restore instrumental music education. The nonprofit has delivered $51 million worth of musical instruments to 1,900 schools. In 2013, the nonprofit gave grants to 48 Michigan music programs, valued at approximately $30,000 each.
Coit was the second school announced by Lachey. Check out the video:
