Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry were spotted on La Cienega Boulevard Saturday—well, more like smaller, harrier versions. A handful of pop star pooches strutted the red carpet at the new PetSmart for a chance to receive a year’s worth of free veterinary care.
The chain opened last Monday amid a bit of controversy after planting a billboard atop local pet supply retailer Healthy Spot. Situated just a few blocks south of West Hollywood, PetSmart will house Banfield Pet Hospital, which offers surgery, preventive care, routine examinations and nutrition counseling.
Twenty percent of Banfield's opening weekend revenue will be donated to the Los Angeles chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Former 98 Degrees band member and Dancing with the Stars champion Drew Lachey judged the “Does Your Pet Look Like a Grammy Nominee?” competition. Standouts were a Maltese name Noodles, who arrived as Nicki Minaj in a blue wig and oversized sunglasses, and Mason the Pomeranian, who came as Bruno Mars in a cutom-made pinstripe suit and tie.
