Nick Lachey did what millions of other Americans did on Saturday – he watched his wedding screen on TLC as the network aired the “Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding” special.
“Just the two of us. [We] opened a bottle of wine and plopped down on the couch and watched it Saturday night,” Nick told AccessHollywood.com’sLaura Saltman at the NBC Television Critics Association session on Monday, of catching the show with his new bride, Vanessa Minnillo.
“It was pretty cool,” Nick said of watching the footage from his recent wedding on television. “There were things I didn’t even remember happening. It was kind of neat to sit down and kind of relive it.”
Nick revealed that watching the special was actually the first time he’d seen footage from his big day – which took place in mid July on Necker Island, in the British Virgin Islands, a locale owned by Virgin boss Richard Branson.
“Obviously it’s probably the best wedding video you could ever hope to have, something we can show the kids one day,” Nick said.
While the couple enjoyed the special, there are no plans to show their first year of marriage on the small screen.
“We’ve already decided that one,” Nick laughed about the couple’s plans to keep cameras out of their marriage. “The thing that was appealing about this particular special is there was a clear beginning and end to [it] and it’s not going on, and so that’s the reason we were able to kind of wrap our heads around it.”
When Laura told Nick that a number of bloggers suggested Vanessa called Jessica Simpson an “elephant,” when the actress and new “Wipeout” host actually referenced Jessica’s own upcoming wedding (to former NFL star Eric Johnson) by calling it the “elephant in the room,” Nick didn’t bat an eye.
“That sounds like the most ridiculous thing,” he said, referring to the bloggers’ assumptions.
Beyond talk of his TLC wedding special, Nick was promoting the return of NBC’s “The Sing-Off,” which he returns to as host as it kicks off an extended run this fall.
“We’ve seen the talent on the show explode,” Nick said of the show getting more episodes and more a capella groups this season. “We’re excited about the opportunity to make it bigger and better.”
