It has been a big year for MTV-related romances. A few weeks ago, Katy Perry and Russell Brand tied the knot in India after whirlwind romance that began when Brand hosted the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in New York. On Thursday (November 4), the world learned that former 98 Degrees member and MTV reality show star Nick Lachey got engaged to fellow former MTV on-air talent Vanessa Mannillo. (That's not to mention the fact that several MTV News staffers have also recently gotten married or engaged, and that's just in the past month.)
The courtship between Lachey and Mannillo has been going on for several years, and it in fact dates back to 2006. Their relationship began on the set of Lachey's video for "What's Left of Me" (ironically, the song Lachey wrote about the end of his marriage to wife and "Newlyweds" co-star Jessica Simpson). Though they didn't talk about their relationship at the time, the creation of the clip (and thus the beginning of the relationship) was captured on an episode of MTV's "Making the Video."
Their paths crossed multiple times over the next few years, as Mannillo (as one of the hosts of "Total Request Live") was often on camera with Lachey. The pair even hosted MTV's New Year's Eve show in 2007 (where they also shared an on-camera kiss).
But it all began with "What's Left of Me," one of the best songs in Lachey's solo catalog and also a pretty good video to boot. Take a look at the power of music — and the help of MTV — bringing together another happy couple.
