Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo have had their ups and downs during their four years as a couple and Fox411 has exclusively learned the source of many of the duo’s fights.
Fox411 caught up with Lachey and Minnillo at the Nivea XOXO Chain Launch in Times Square recently, where Nick told us that he and Vanessa tend to have their biggest quarrels during “sports nights.”
“We’re very competitive in terms of games and really whatever we do,” Lachey said. “[But] Vanessa is very nice [when] she supports my teams. That is what makes for a peaceful house.”
As it turns out, Minnillo is the video-game champion of the couple’s home, while Lachey is a Trivial Pursuit pro.
“I can’t mess with Vanessa when it comes to video games, so I’ve learned to shift to board games that I can win, like Trivial Pursuit,” Lachey said.
And of Lachey’s skills, Minnillo said. “Nick kills me at Trivial Pursuit. He is an idiot savant when it comes to that kind of knowledge. He knows things like how many ridges there are on the side of a quarter.”
But despite the competitive atmosphere of their home, the couple says they are stronger than ever and are hoping to work together one day.
“It is something we have thought about,” Lachey said. “We have an open heart about doing a project together. Maybe we’ll operate a shrimp fishing boat together or be a mountain rescue team.”
In addition to working together, Lachey says his resolution for the New Year is to give back to the public.
“My blanket resolution is to be more selfless in the New Year,” he told Fox411. “2009 was a tough year for everyone. We have all been affected. I want to give as much as I can. It’s a great time to turn the tide. It should be a year of love, to care more about one another and support your neighbors.”
