December 14th, 2009, 10:18 am Is WLW-AM listening? Nick Lachey has been a recording artist, realty TV star, TV series creator and producer, TV host and actor… but he still hasn’t done it all. The former College Hill resident says he’d love to be a sports talk radio host some day. (Does he know how what radio pays? Usually not much!) Lachey, who hosts “The Sing-Off” a cappella competition on NBC starting today (8-10 p.m., Chs 5, 2, through Weds, and next Monday too), told a group of us on a conference call that he someday wants to host a sports talk show. The 1992 SCPA grad, and huge Bengals/Reds/UC Bearcats fan, said:
“Aside from music, sports is my other passion. I could talk about that (sports) for hours on end. So to get paid to do that for hours would be kind of a dream come true at some point.”
With the Bengals headed for the playoffs, and UC going to the Sugar Bowl, and WLW-AM needing some folks to fill in during vacations over the holidays, why not ask Nick to host “SportsTalk” one night? I’m sure he could do it from a Clear Channel studio in Los Angeles.
Some other comments from Lachey:
–He began singing a cappella at SCPA, and then worked two summers at Kings Island singing in a barbershop quartet. (Does anyone remember him from that? To help jog your memory, the above photo is his SCPA senior picture. ) “I sang my share of ‘Lida Rose’ back in the day (at Kings Island)… and had a lot of fun. It (a cappella) is always something I’ve enjoyed.”
–Will there ever be a 98 Degrees reunion? ”There’s always a chance of that. We’ve always… kept that door wide open.”
Hey, Lance McAlister — you need a co-host on “Sports Talk” one night the next two weeks? Or want to take a night off and let Lachey host the show? What fun!
