Celebrity Fans Rooting for Jimmie Johnson to Win Daytona 500

SOURCE

Patrick Dempsey, Jeff Probst and others weigh in on their picks for NASCAR's most prestigious race, running Sunday.

Forty-three of the world’s best stock car drivers will compete in the Daytona 500 on Sunday, but five-time consecutive winner Jimmie Johnson is a clear favorite among celebrity racing fans.

Nick Lachey told Sports Illustrated, "I know, I know, it's a bit of a long shot because the guy hasn't figured out the "winning" thing just yet, but I have a nose for these things! In all seriousness, no driver combines talent, poise and almost anal preparation like Jimmie does."
Other Johnson supporters include Shameless actress Emmy Rossum, Rascal Flatts’ Gary Levox, actor Joey Lawrence and singer Gavin DeGraw.
Although actor Patrick Dempsey rooted for Johnson last year, he was more ambivalent this year, "Mark Martin would be great. I think people would be flipping out if he won it. I said Jimmie Johnson last year but I cursed him. I'd like to see him win, but I don't know if he's going to win it this year."
Country singer Brad Paisley went with veteran Jeff Gordon. "I have met Jeff a few times and I think the four-time champ will win this year's Daytona 500. The Hendrick cars are strong, and Jeff is one of the best at Daytona," the entertainer told Sports Illustrated.
Actress Jill Wagner also supported Gordon, but for a different reason: “Why? Because my grandma thinks he's cute and says it's high time he won a race!”
Survivor host Jeff Probst said he would “always support Smoke (Tony Stewart),” but added that he’ll enjoy the day regardless of who wins: "It's anybody's race! With the new pavement it should make for three wide racin' all day and an exciting race for the fans.”
Other notable celebrity picks:
Singer Meat Loaf, Subway spokesman Jared and Five For Fighting’s John Ondrasik all expressed support for Carl Edwards. “If he wins he does a back flip, how great is that,” Meat Loaf enthused, referring to Edwards’ signature move.
Mario Lopez was torn between Edwards and Juan Pablo Montoya, but predicted Montoya would pull off the win because “he is due!”
Model Holly Madison felt the same way about Dale Earnhardt Jr. “It's been a long time since he's won a Sprint Cup race and I think he's due,” she said.
Lauren Conrad gave her endorsement to Kasey Kahne, whom she met last year and described as “so fun to watch,” while actor Donnie Wahlberg picked Kevin Harvick and actress-model Brooke Hogan singled out Joey Logano.

“On A Emotional High”

Do you remember 98 Degrees? Well, you may remember songs such as “I Do (Cherish You),” “Thank God I Found You,” and of course their infamous duet with Mariah Carey, “Because of You.” After working the past four years, Jeff Timmons, former member of the hit making boy band, 98 Degrees, is back. With a new album and a new sound, this definitely defines him as a solo “hip-pop” artist.

SpotLight: Hey, how are you?

Jeff Timmons: I’m good. I’m on my way to LA and traffic is not too bad, so I’m good.

SpotLight: Okay, so how has life changed for you since the transition from 98 Degrees?

Jeff Timmons: Well, it’s been a complete change for me. I’m divorced, I have two kids and I have many responsibilities. Before I was able to do pretty much whatever I wanted to but when you have kids, you have to grow up. I still travel, but at times it is hard because I don’t like being away from my kids.

SpotLight: It is nice to hear that you care so much for your children because nowadays, so many kids are without their father.

Jeff Timmons: I love my kids.

SpotLight: What about musically, how has that changed for you?

Jeff Timmons: On the music tip, being a solo artist I am able to be creative, be myself and decide how I want to sound. I’m able to have my own sound and that’s what I want. Obviously, there are some ups and downs to being an independent solo artist, but I am happy.

SpotLight: Do you ever speak with the guys?

Jeff Timmons: Yes, it’s been a while but yeah. We’re still close, and although we dont speak as much, we all support each other.

SpotLight: Okay, so everyone wants to know, is there a reunion in the future for 98 Degrees?

Jeff Timmons: Not in the near future, no. Everyone is doing their own thing right now, but maybe it will happen when we get bored.

SpotLight: Now, what made you decide to release your album for free?

Jeff Timmons: Everyone asks me that question. I mean, I didn’t have a big studio, didn’t have a big promo and it’s been 8 or 9 years since the fans have heard anything from 98 Degrees. So by me coming out as a solo artist, I couldn’t expect for the fans to go out and buy the album and not know what my sound was like. Giving my album away for free was the best thing I could do and hopefully the fans will accept it.

SpotLight: What can fans expect from the album? Will it sound like a 98 Degrees album?

Jeff Timmons: I’m a BIG fan of hip hop, from the beats down to the club hits. I like to see people moving and enjoying my music so you can expect a lot of that, a hip-pop sound.

SpotLight: Hip-pop?

Jeff Timmons: Yes, hip-pop.

SpotLight: Tell me about your distribution company iamMedia.

Jeff Timmons: Distribution is a big problem right now so I had the idea to take cd’s and put them back in the stores. It’s all about creating awareness so if you go into your local coffee shop, Starbucks or anywhere like that, iamMedia gives you the opportunity to have a better product, affordable and more for your dollar.

SpotLight: Interesting. So, whats going on for Jeff in 2010?

Jeff Timmons: Hopefully reach 1 million downloads of my album, spread awareness about my distribution company, finish putting a tour together and keep doing music.

SpotLight: Before you go, you have been in this industry for quite some time now, so what is the most important thing you have learner?

Jeff Timmons: The most important thing I have learned is to always have faith and believe in yourself no matter what. Surround yourself with people you can trust because even the people who you are closest to have trouble with integrity.

Bengals Q&A with Nick Lachey

SOURCE
By James Walker

The Cincinnati Bengals are once again in a state of turmoil. They're coming off a 4-12 season, their franchise quarterback wants out, and there's coaching and personnel changes on the horizon.

So ESPN.com's AFC North blog reached out to the most famous Bengals fan -- singer, songwriter and actor Nick Lachey -- to get his take on the state of the franchise. As a Cincinnati native and die-hard Bengals fan, Lachey offered his candid take on ownership, Carson Palmer's trade demands and his personal message to other Bengals fans.

Nick, let's start with some background. How long have you been a Bengals fan and what were some of your best and early memories?

[+] EnlargeNick Lachey
David Livingston/Getty ImagesNick Lachey shared his thoughts on the Bengals and how fans should deal with the cycle of losing.
Nick Lachey: I've been a Bengals fan for the better part of 30 years. The first season I can remember getting interested in football was the year we went to our first Super Bowl against the 49ers. That was the era of Ken Anderson, Cris Collinsworth, Isaac Curtis, Pete Johnson, etc. That season, two things were born: A lifelong passion for the Bengals and an absolute hatred of the 49ers. They remain a thorn in the Bengals' side.

Who is your favorite Bengal of all time? Why?

Nick Lachey: My favorite Bengal of all time is easily Anthony Munoz. Aside from being the greatest offensive lineman that ever played the game, he is also the Bengals' lone representative in the NFL Hall of Fame. As intimidating as he was on the field, he has always been the most approachable and respectful person off of it. I remember meeting him as a young boy and being shocked by how nice he was to me. As a native Cincinnatian, I have a great deal of respect for how he has embraced our community as well. He has chosen to continue to call Cincinnati home long after his playing days and has done a great deal for the city there. As great as he was as a player, I can easily say he is an even greater human being.

With the high expectations coming in, where would last season rank for you among Bengal disappointments?

Nick Lachey: I think this last year was the most disappointing season in the history of the franchise for me. Certainly there were more pathetic seasons for Bengal fans in terms of record, but none with as many expectations as we had for the team in 2010. I think the most frustrating aspect for me was that we seemed to be in every game, and simply found a way to lose. We never really got blown out but made just enough mistakes and committed enough foolish penalties to take ourselves out of the game. I can handle being soundly beaten by better teams, but beating ourselves was difficult to stomach.

Quarterback Carson Palmer wants out and threatens to retire. Were you surprised? As GM, Nick, how would you handle this situation?

Nick Lachey: I was surprised by Carson's comments simply because he has been so hesitant to step up and say anything in the past. There have been many situations in the past few seasons when you would want and expect your highly paid franchise QB to step up and be the leader of the team, on and off the field. Carson has never been willing to be that guy. He remained silent, seemingly willing to let the chips fall where they may, collect his check and go home. I remember the days of Boomer Esiason, and let's just say I wish Carson had more of Boomer in him. Now, when Carson decides that he doesn't want to deal with it anymore, he finally shows the backbone Bengal fans have long waited to see and makes an ultimatum to be traded or retire. I'm the first to admit that the Bengals can be a tough team to play for at times, but they also made you the highest-paid player in the NFL at the time and you owe it to them and the fans to show some resolve, be a leader and fight through it. Being a very highly compensated franchise QB in the NFL is more than learning terminology and throwing passes. It's about being a leader, and Carson has proven that he cannot be that. If there is a team that thinks he is worth trading for, do it.

Building off that subject, how would you characterize the current state of the franchise?

Nick Lachey: ABYSMAL! Now that I'm done assaulting Carson, let me also explain why I can't blame him for being fed up. Short of the Los Angeles Clippers, who I also happen to be a fan of, the Bengals may be the most poorly run franchise in professional sports. Since Mike Brown has taken over, we've been the laughingstock of the league, all the while supported by a fan base that has refused to give up on the team. After years, even decades of "bungled" draft picks, unfortunate injuries, and off the field embarrassments, I see this as a breaking point for the Bengals and the fans in Cincinnati. People are tired of giving their hard-earned money to a team that seemingly cares more about growing the family fortune than it does about competing for a championship. So many years of futility has created an atmosphere of perpetual losing that no player wants to be a part of, Carson being the latest example. I feel bad for the players and the community that supports them. I think it's time for Mike Brown to admit he's not the football man he thinks he is and hire people who are. As an owner, I think you owe it to the fans who have so loyally supported your team and made you a lot of money in the process to field the best team possible. I think we can safely say that a team that has Mike Brown making personnel decisions is certainly not the best team possible. If he did the right thing and hired someone to take over those duties, he would instantly go from being Cincinnati's public enemy No. 1 to its newfound hero. Hope is a powerful thing, and as Bengal fans, that is all we're asking for.

Lastly, as the most high-profile Bengals fan out there, what message would you have for other Bengals fans who are losing hope?

Nick Lachey: As Bengal fans, we have endured so much over the past 20-plus seasons, with little in the way of satisfaction. We have paid for a new stadium, signed up for public seat licenses and continued to sell out a stadium for a team that has seldom performed to expectations. I have leased a suite for the past five seasons and commuted back and forth from Los Angeles to watch the team I love, many times flying back feeling as if the joke were on me. My message to the fans in Cincinnati would be this -- the power is in our hands. It's time that, as a fan base, we demand more from the team we so passionately love and support. Cincinnati is a rabid football town and we deserve to have a team that cares about winning as much as we do. As hard as it is, the only way we can show our resolve is to quit blindly supporting the same old dysfunctional, losing cycle that is the Mike Brown Bengals. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Albert Einstein said that and he was a pretty smart guy from what I've heard. Bengal fans, don't go insane.

Vanessa Minnillo isn't afraid to repeat an outfit on the red carpet, especially when it has sentimental value.

"This is the dress Nick [Lachey] proposed to me in and I thought it would be good luck to wear it tonight," the 30-year-old actress told UsMagazine.com of her Nightcap ensemble at Clive Davis' 53rd Annual Grammy Awards party in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Saturday.

The Sing Off host popped the question in November 2010 after four years of dating; Minnillo now rocks a platinum Bader & Garri band with an asscher cut diamond featuring trapezoids on the side.

As for what Minnillo will wear on the big day, the True Beauty host told Us she's already found a few options -- but since her 37-year-old hubby-to-be was by her side, "that's one thing I can't talk about with this one standing right here."

In the meantime, Minnillo assures Us that she and Lachey won't be exchanging vows anytime soon.
"We're having fun, but we're not going to let it consume our lives," Minnillo said. "We're causally and gradually taking the steps, so honest to goodness, we've just decided on our wedding planner and that's all we've done. We haven't set dates or places or anything."

Vanessa Says Working With Nick Is "Weird," Plus Their Valentine's Plans!

by Lauren Bradshaw
What would Grammys weekend be without the infamous Clive Davis party? The shindig is the Grammy go-to bash, and this year, musicians and actors alike came out for the big event. I managed to grab a couple of minutes with cute twosome Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, who walked the carpet together. They shared behind-the-scenes scoop about their guest spot on Hawaii Five-0 (airing this Monday!), revealed what's currently playing on their iPod, and spoke about Valentine's Day plans. The engaged couple looked incredibly happy, and Nick even paid his fiancée a sweet compliment. Just keep reading!

You're both guest star on Hawaii Five-0 this week. What was it like filming together?
Vanessa Minnillo: It was weird. They said you need to be this way toward him at this point, and I literally caught myself in giggle moments. I don't know how people do it in relationships, acting together. I couldn't do it.

Hawaii Five-0 is such an action-packed show. Will we see you doing any action scenes?
Nick Lachey: There was a little action. I campaigned to be able to do some of my own stunts, and I was happy the production let me do some of that.
VM: He got a bruise on his elbow.
NL: I was limping for a couple of days, but I was a real warrior at the end. It was a lot of fun, great cast, great group; the whole experience was a blast.

And Vanessa, you're coming off of your guest spot on 30 Rock. Did you enjoy doing comedy?
VM: That was amazing. You know, when you're working beside Tina Fey and Elizabeth Banks, it can only make you better as an actor. But the script is so well written. Honestly, I'm grateful that people are giving me accolades for it, but it's such a great show, and it's just so well written, and the actors are so great that they made it better for me.

So can we expect more TV appearances from you guys?
VM: Yeah, it's pilot season right now.
NL: She was born to be on TV. It's her destiny.

Since this is the Grammys, what are you listening to right now?
VM: You know, on the way here we were listening to Daft Punk, the Tron soundtrack.
NL: I'm addicted to the Tron soundtrack.
VM: We're obsessed with it! Oh my god, if you don't have it, get it, drive with it. It's addicting. I clean the house to it; it's amazing.
NL: It's like going into battle. If you're trying to get fired up for something . . .
VM: "Arena" — that's the song that will get you going.

Any big Valentine's Day plans?
VM: Watching Hawaii Five-0! Is that really corny? We're going to dinner and then watching ourselves on TV.
NL: It happens to air on Valentine's Day.
VM: And then we'll criticize each other, and who knows?

Nick Lachey's Valentine's Day Plans: Watch Fiancée on TV | Nick Lachey, Vanessa Minnillo
For newly engaged couple Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo, Valentine’s Day will be a low-key love affair.

“What we’re going to do is have a nice romantic dinner and a few cocktails,” Lachey, 36, told PEOPLE at the Pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons with Clive Davis Honoring David Geffen, held at the Beverly Hilton.

But does the singer have any special after-dinner plans with his soon-to-be wife?

"We're going to go home and watch Hawaii Five-0 guest-starring Vanessa Minnillo,” he said, laughing.

Walking the red carpet with her man by her side, Minnillo, 30, dished about having Lachey’s support for the rest of her life.

“All the good stuff feels different [because] you know that you found your partner that’s there for you,” she explained. “But we’ve been dating for five years so all the nitpicky stuff is worked out.”

“We’re an old hat now,” Lachey added.
