Former Boy Band Member Arrested In Occupy Protest

SOURCE

Local police said a former boy band member was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with trespassing during an Occupy Cincinnati protest.

98 Degrees had eight top 40 singles and sold 10 million albums worldwide. The four members included brothers Nick and Drew Lachey, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre -- the same Justin Jeffre who helped lead an Occupy Cincinnati rally on Fountain Square on Saturday and the same one who was arrested Sunday.

"Being in jail is not fun. It's very dehumanizing," Jeffre said.

Jeffre, 38, who is now a political activist, said he's standing up for free speech that doesn't end at dark.

"The reality is, I think a lot of people who work at the justice system understand what we're talking about. We must have government of, for and by the people. And we want our First Amendment right to do it," Jeffre said on Monday night at Piatt Park.

Jeffre calls the members of 98 Degrees "his brothers," and they still get together. He said they support his "taking a stand" even if some of them don't want to be perceived as "political."

"We love our country and our constitutional rights. We love our parks and public places, and we want everybody to be able to enjoy them," Jeffre said.

98 Degrees Member, Jeff Timmons Pens Forward for Sandy Lo's "Dream Catchers Series" Hard Cover Book

SOURCE

Special Edition of "The Dream Catchers Series" will be published in one book for the first time on November 22 including a forward by singer/producer Jeff Timmons along with other added bonuses.

Author, Journalist & Blogger, Sandy Lo will release her first hard cover book on November 22, 2011. Lo has decided to package a special edition of THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES, which will include all three parts of the series: Dream Catchers (2010), Breaking The Moon (2011) and Expressions (2011). Now fans of the series will be able to get this collector’s edition in time for the holidays. Sandy Lo will also be selling autographed copies directly from her website along with a copy of “Haley’s Letter”, the original song from Dream Catchers. Details on pre-ordering the autographed edition will be on http://www.sandy-lo.com soon.

Sandy Lo has made it known how much music has influenced her characters and plots. To emphasize that, she is including a list of songs she listened to while writing THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES, which ranges widely from 30 Seconds To Mars to Miranda Lambert. To make this collection even more special, singer/producer Jeff Timmons, of 98 Degrees fame, has written the forward. “Jeff Timmons has been such a big supporter of everything I’ve done over the years, just like I’ve been a huge fan of his,” says Sandy. “To have him enjoy my novels as much as I enjoy his music blows my mind. I’m honored to have him write the forward to THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES. He’s an amazing person and a gifted entertainer.” (Check out Jeff Timmons’ video message he made for the Dream Catchers book release party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8yjxOvsnu4)

Currently, Dream Catchers and its sequel, Breaking The Moon are available on Amazon.com & Lulu.com in paperback and Kindle formats while Expressions is only available for Kindle/Ebook.

The series followed up the success of Sandy Lo’s debut novel, LOST IN YOU which she states in the acknowledgments was heavily influenced by her love for Timmons’ group, 98 Degrees and Backstreet Boys.

Lo announced earlier today on Facebook/Twitter that LOST IN YOU is now receiving distribution at barnesandnoble.com, Nook, and the Apple store. “Being a self-published author is not exactly a straight shot to the New York Times Best Sellers’ List, as you can imagine,” Sandy explains. “But I’m willing to work my way there, one sale at a time. I’ve wanted to get my books on Barnes & Noble for a while, and with LOST IN YOU, that’s finally happened. Hopefully THE DREAM CATCHERS SERIES will follow suit,” she says. “I’m just thankful for every person willing to give my books a shot. The support I have from friends, family, fans and some awesome entertainers is amazing and I appreciate every opportunity I’ve been blessed with.”

"Breaking The Moon" Released April 2011.

Highlander Live Talk - Nick Lachey Interview

Mohegan Sun Party Goes On Without J.Lo

SOURCE

It was 15th anniversary celebration those who attended won't soon forget at Mohegan Sun, thanks to a second night of star power on the red carpet and the dance floor Saturday.

mohparty7_opt.jpgAmong them, singer/actor Nick Lachey and his new bride, Vanessa Minnillo (in short gold party dress,) actress Jamie Presley and beau Hanzi Hijazi, model Linda Vojtave, "Footloose" star, Kenny Wormald, and "Glee's" Lea Michele.

"This is all so great," said Michele in a very revealing black cocktail dress. Like most going into the late-night after party at the casino's new Ballo restaurant, Michele was still on a high from the explosive concert by Jennifer Lopez.

"I would love to have her come on one of the show,"saidmohparty1_opt.jpgMichele. "She is incredible."

J.Lo may have been incredible on stage, but never-the-less she was a no-show on the hyped-up red carpet following her concert, and a definite no-show to the party that went on into the wee hours of Sunday. There were a lot of disappointed fans and media who waited more than an hour after the concert to see if she would make a public appearance. Word was she firmly said "no" despite any last minute appeals from the brass.

Once everyone got over that however, it was all eyes on those who did do the walk including four hunky guys from the soap "General Hospital," who play in a cover band together called "Point Chuck,"

"What would we play if could only play one song the rest of our lives?" said actor Steve Burton, who, with Brandon Barash, Bradford Anderson and Scott Reeves, make up the group. "It would be "I've Got No Brain," a new one just written by my three-year-old son, Jack," said the proud papa of two, whipping out his phone so he could let others listen to his son's musical genius.

And speaking of hunks, remember Jesse Metcalf of "Desperate Housewives" and mostmohparty5_opt.jpgrecently from "John Tucker Must Die?"

The casino celebration turned into a reunion for him and an "ex."

Metcalf once lived in Connecticut attending The Williams School in New London. Waiting for him along the red carpet, the girl he went to homecoming with at Waterford High School, Crissy Doucette.

"We weren't dating, god no," she said about their long-ago date. "We grew up together since elementary school and just went to homecoming together," sad Doucette, after she and Metcalf said their "hellos" and posed for a picture together. "But he was cute then too."

mohparty6_opt.jpg"So You Think You Can Dance," judge Mary Murphy was back, trading five-inch gold stilettos for flat-soled boots for the party.

"My feet won't be the same for a week," said the boisterous, fun-loving judge, who, like many on the second night of partying, ditched the really high heels for something more comfortable.

Inside the party deejay DJ Kiss was in charge of getting it started and keeping it going, just like she promised.

"Of course I'll be playing some JLo but just a lot of fun stuff," she said. "Music to get people out here to dance," she said as she headed inside.

And dance they did. Moves of the night? Who knew "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro, andmohparty10_opt.jpgcelebrity chefs Todd English and Bobby Flay could boogie like that when they are out of the kitchen!

English and Flay had a good-natured competition going on another matter. Seems JLo preferred English over Flay when it came to food.

"Todd got her first," kidded Flay about what the former "Fly Girl" turned star ordered for eats while in the tony Presidential Suite during her casino stay.

"Pizza and mostly salads," reported English about Lopez's requests. "And it was all room service."

And one last note. Connecticut's own "American Idol" finalist who went on to her own fame,mohparty8_opt.jpgKatie Stevens, was there and all grown up.

You might remember Stevens almost made it on last year's season of Fox's popular talent reality show. Well, now she is pursuing her career in L.A. but was in CT for the weekend, in part, to perform today at the casino on the last day of its anniversary weekend.

"I am so happy to be home and Connecticut will always be my home," said the stylish singer who wore bright red strapless and purple suede shoes. "And I want to thank Connecticut again for all its support when I was on "Idol." I will always be grateful."

98 Degrees boy band singer Justin Jeffre among arrested Occupy Cincinnati protesters

SOURCE

CINCINNATI — Former boy band singer Justin Jeffre has pleaded not guilty to trespassing after being arrested in the Occupy Cincinnati protest, part of the demonstrations over economic inequality that have spread nationwide.

Police say the member of 98 Degrees was one of 11 people arrested early Sunday at the city's Fountain Square after the 3 a.m. closing time. They also were charged with unlawful use of the square.

Jeffre tells The Cincinnati Enquirer newspaper he spent several hours in jail and it was "no fun." But he says it was the right place to be to stand up for free speech.

The 38-year-old Jeffre has been a Cincinnati political activist.

"Occupy Cincinnati" protesters marched to Cincinnati's City Hall on Wednesday, but they got a cool reception from some City Council members.

Protesters say they demand that City Council remove a city law "limiting freedom of speech in public space."

"Fountain Square and Piatt Place should be places where the public can gather to talk 24/7," Justin Jeffre told council members.

"This is a special moment in terms of assembly and protest going on across the country," Erik Crew said.

The law requires people to leave parks when they close between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

So far, 241 citations have been issued in the park where protesters have been camped for nearly two weeks.

Council members Leslie Ghiz and Wayne Lippert have asked that the city enforce the law and remove the protesters from the park when it is closed.

"Constitutionally, time, place and manner. That's why we're allowed to say at 10 p.m., they close down. We're not saying we don't like what you're saying, we're just saying you got to leave at 10, come back at 6," Ghiz said.

The council members said they would seek a no-confidence vote on City Manager Milton Dohoney if action isn't taken.

Some business owners have complained that the protest is affecting their business near the park.

Protesters have filed a federal lawsuit over park access, and a federal judge has issued a temporary stay on the issuing of citations.

"People are peaceful, it's just been real energizing and I would think that it has been for all of you, too. So, I would hope that you would protect their right to assemble," Bonnie Neumeier said.

In April, Nick Lachey attended a Jeff Ruby roast, and joined in the fun.

After marrying television host Vanessa Minnillo in July, "The Sing-Off" host and former boy bander Nick Lachey is settling down in his Cincinnati hometown.

Lachey told "Access Hollywood Live" this week that he recently bought a home next door to his younger brother, former fellow 98 Degrees member Drew Lachey. Drew Lachey and his wife, Lea, moved to Cincinnati from Los Angeles in 2009 and built a home in Columbia Tusculum. Drew gave a tour of his home for a July episode of HGTV's "My Favorite Place."

"(Vanessa has) really grown to love Cincinnati, it's obviously not L.A. or New York... but it's a great place to raise a family," Nick told Access Hollwood. "It's where my family is and it's kind of her family now, and we're loving it. I love the idea of raising kids in the Midwest, where the values are good, and I love the idea of raising my kids next to my brother."

Lachey did not say that he and Minnillo are expecting, only that he "has to get on the kid wagon."

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Nick Lachey had his dream wedding with Vanessa Minnillo in July, has a new house in his hometown of Cincinnati – now, the star and his new wife just have to fill it.

Up Close with Nick Lachey - The Sing Off

Sizing Up The Sing Off with Nick Lachey

SOURCE

by Troy Rogers

The Sing-Off is back on NBC with former 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey serving as host in front of judges Ben Folds, Sean Stockman of Boyz II Men, newcomer Sara Bareilles, and a new season of a cappella acts. Given the current popularity of a cappella, Nick Lachey knows a thing or two about singing with a group after finding success with the all boy group of 98 Degrees. Interestingly, as we found out from Nick Lachey, there's a special bond that develops when singing as a member of a collective.

With The Sing-Off about to give fans the second part of radio hits and '60s songs on October 10 at 8pm on NBC, TheDeadbolt recently spent a few minutes with Nick Lachey to find out what he thinks of the new Sing-Off season, Sara Bareilles as a judge, and whether Nick Lachey misses singing with 98 Degrees.

THE DEADBOLT: So what do you think Sara brings to the table as a judge this season?

NICK LACHEY: Sara has been such an absolute joy to be to be around to work with. I think she's such a she's such a brilliant songwriter and musician in her own right and she brings such a wealth of knowledge to the panel. I said this before and I'll say it again, I think she's the absolute perfect fit for what The Sing-Off is and what The Sing-Off's all about. She's been just an absolute joy to have on the show.

THE DEADBOLT: What was behind the decision to expand the competition to 16 groups this season?

LACHEY: We were afforded the opportunity to have a longer season, eleven episodes this year, as opposed to the five that we had last year. So it just gave us an opportunity to expand the search and expand the audition process and ultimately have more groups compete, which I think is great. You see a real diversity this season between the groups, everything from high-schoolers to our first ever rapper on the show and the old Doo-Wop guys, North Shore. So you've got a real wide range of a capella represented. I think it's great that we're able to expand it.

THE DEADBOLT: Although you've had a solo career after 98 Degrees, do you ever yearn to be part of a group again after watching the a capella groups on The Sing-Off?

LACHEY: Sure, yes. It's a contagious show to be a part of. I think there's a camaraderie that comes with being in a group of any kind or a band. And certainly that was true for 98 Degrees. There was a real kind of special brotherly bond that we all shared. And yes, I miss that. It's fun to go through those experiences with other people and guys you care about. So yes, there's definitely something to be said for being a part of a group like that.

Nick Lachey may ‘Sing-Off’ with boy band again

SOURCE

By Emily Gagne
Host says 98 Degrees could reunite on NBC show

Wish someone would give you just one more night (uno muchas noche!) with ‘90s boy band 98 Degrees? Nick Lachey says you may just get your wish – on The Sing-Off.

The former boy bander and current host of the NBC a cappella reality show revealed in a conference call that the group has considered reuniting on The Sing-Off’s stage.

“It’s something we’ve talked about in the past,” Lachey toldTV Guide Canada Thursday. “I wouldn’t be surprised at all if you see that happen at some point.”

If 98 Degrees does appear on the show, the group would be following in the footsteps of Boyz II Men, which features Sing-Off judge Shawn Stockman, who performed on last year’s finale with the winning group, Committed.

Lachey says watching the various groups perform on the all-voices competition every week takes him back to being in the pop group, which also included his brother Drew, Jeff Timmins and Justin Jeffre.

“It’s a contagious show to be a part of,” he said. “There’s a camaraderie that comes with being in a group of any kind, of any band. That was true for 98 Degrees. There was a special … brotherly kind of bond that we all share. And yeah, I miss that.”

Nick and the Degrees dudes owe everything to the a cappella style. They used to sing sans band for anyone who would listen before heating up the charts with hits like “I Do (Cherish You)” and “The Hardest Thing” and stealing the hearts – and precious wall space – of millions of tweens everywhere.

“That’s how we got signed to Motown Records. We walked into the producer’s office and did an a cappella medley for him,” Lachey revealed.

“When you become a boy band and you start singing and wearing goofy outfits and stuff, a cappella takes a bit of a backseat. But it really was what inspired us to get together. The thing that created our opportunity.”

Lachey has been hosting The Sing-Off for three seasons, but he says this year’s crop of contestants, which started off totaling 16 groups and has since been cut to 12, has been “unbelievable.”

“I couldn’t be happier with the level of talent and the level of execution these groups have been bringing to the table this year,” he said. “The competition is really stiff. I can’t imagine how much pressure the groups are under.”

The Sing-Off airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC, and Saturdays at 8 pm. ET on CTV.

My Life, My Style: Nick Lachey

SOURCE

Nick-Lachey_NUP_145737_0211.jpgNBC's The Sing-Off host Nick Lachey sits down with Life & Style and reveals some fun secrets!

My most luxurious getaway was...
Four days on Necker Island for the wedding would probably qualify for that.

Most decadent meal I've ever had...
It would have to be a lobster, surf-and-turf kind of deal at some point. But it's always the wine that makes it more expensive. I love Silver Oak wine, so a nice bottle of Silver Oak with a fat steak and lobster tail -- that's a good meal.

Most expensive suit I've ever borrowed...
I have no clue, but I can say my wedding tux cost like $2,000. And I might wear it again. Vanessa can't wear her dress again, but I could wear my tux.

My biggest guilty pleasure is...
Miller Lite.

One item of clothing I can't live without...
I have a pair of ratty old True Religion jeans that are well worn in. They really should have been retired a year ago and I still wear them. There's nothing better than a really comfortable pair of worn-in jeans.

My friends teas me about...
What don't they tease me about? But they do say I worry too much.

One superpower I would like to have is...
I would love to be able to fly. I can imagine how cool would be to just be able to leave the ground and go wherever you wanted whenever you wanted.

The biggest risk I ever took...
I guess it was skydiving. It was pretty risky and I didn't dislike it, but it's not the kind of thing I'd rush to sign up for again. I'm glad I did it, but I think I'm good after doing it once.

My favorite designer is...
I like a lot of John Varvatos' stuff, so I'd have to say he's probably my favorite right now.

My pet peeve is...
I hate it when you're in a line -- like at the airport or in security -- and someone is right up on your a--. It's like, do you think you're going to get there any faster by being on top of me? It drives me nuts.

The funniest thing that has ever happened to me at work was...
Slipping and falling on stage. That's always embarrassing. During the summer we would play a lot of outdoor arenas. There'd be dew on the stage, or it would rain, and before you knew it you'd be doing the moves and your legs would be out from under you. All you can do is laugh. But I never collided with any of the other guys -- I always managed to take myself out.

My worst haircut was...
I had the "butt cut" with the middle part in the early days of the band. I had a couple of bad hair moments when I was in 98°, but that was probably the worst one.

My first kiss was...
It was truth or dare in the seventh grade, with Jenny Watson, who was in my English class. I'm not in touch with her anymore!

My craziest fan interaction...
It's always when somebody manages to get on the stage during the middle of a concert. All of a sudden there's somebody there and you have to keep singing and put your arm around them -- it's awkward and you never know what to do. Security!

One thing I find sexy in the opposite sex is...
Humble confidence. I like a woman who is confident, but not arrogant. So security and confidence in herself is very sexy.

The one thing I never leave home without...
My BlackBerry, sad to say, and also my wedding ring. I can't leave home without that because that's how rumors start.

My favorite cocktail is...
I'm a beer guy, Miller Lite, but I'm kind of like an elderly English woman, too: I like gin and tonics.

The most flights I've taken in a day and to where is...
One time, I had to go from Japan to Treeport in Idaho and from there to New York to sing at the U.S. Open.

Be sure to catch The Sing Off on NBC on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET!
