Vanessa Minnillo on Her 'Intimate' Moments With Nick Lachey — in the Shower!

by Erin Hill
As a former Miss Teen USA and host of ABC's reality competition series True Beauty, Vanessa Minnillo knows her stuff when it comes to putting your best self forward. That's probably why she recently teamed up with AXE Shower in their effort to help guys step up their grooming habits.

The 29-year-old opened up to Parade.com about her own steamy shower moments with boyfriend Nick Lachey and why you won't be seeing them on the small screen together any time soon.

Turning dirty boys into clean men.

"I had just wrapped Season 2 of True Beauty and the whole premise of that show was that real beauty comes from within. I partnered with Axe Shower, and we decided to take it a step forward and encourage guys to not let that aspect of their game fall back and to always be on top of everything and be true to who you are as a person, but also treat yourself right and take care of yourself. Sure, the good guy gets the girl, but the good guy who's also clean, keeps the girl!"

Her best tip when it comes to guys and their grooming habits.
"I think it starts at the base. Honestly, guys try to cover up everything, whether it's with products or taking a bath in whatever scent their wearing. If you don't shower and scrub your body, you're pretty much masking the problem."

Shower time with boyfriend Nick Lachey.
"We shower, honestly, at least twice a day. We shower in the morning and we shower at some point during the day or before bed. It's so funny because we've turned it into an intimate time for each other. We both have our own shower heads so we just talk while we're soaping up and doing our hair. It's not a sexual thing and it's not a romantic thing, it just becomes an intimate thing. You're in your full form, so to speak, and you're vulnerable and we just both let our guard down. I've had some of my most intimate conversations with him in the shower."

Does he sing in the shower?
"He does. I sing in the shower when he's not there and the acoustics are great -- everyone sounds amazing! When he's preparing for a show or a singing appearance, it's the best because the steam helps relax your vocal chords. It's kind of cute; it's become a routine. Sometimes I have to catch myself because I take for granted how beautiful his voice is and how it's at the palm of my hand. So I try to appreciate whenever he does his warm-ups."

Nick doesn't spend a lot of time in front of the mirror.
"He's not that guy that does crazy hair trimming and nose trimming. He's pretty straightforward when it comes to that. He has his routine and he goes out the door."

Her tried-and-true beauty tips.
"As a woman, it's important to moisturize every day, and it's important to take your make up off every night. I can tell you that there's been 4 or 5 times this week that I've thought that's the last thing I wanted to do, but it's so important. And as soon as I do it and moisturize I feel so much better and it shows. We can do things to alter our appearance, whether it's our hair or our clothes, but you only get one body and you only get one face and one set of skin, so you might as well take care of it. I think the biggest beauty secret is just to think in advance and think how it's going to affect you. Sunscreen is a huge one as well. I would encourage people to wear sunscreen every day."

Would they ever consider doing a reality show together?
"I think that a competition reality show is different than a reality show. I personally have no desire. Nick has done one before and he was very successful at it and whatever he chooses to do with his future I will support him 100%. But me personally, I don't know. I think that there's something to be said for keeping intimate moments to yourself, but he said it best, 'You never can say never.' But I personally don't want to do one."

How to have a strong relationship in Hollywood.
"You have to talk through everything. It's all about communication. We talk daily about things that upset us. It's about having a sounding board because if you hold in all your thoughts, dreams, anger and anxiety than you're only hurting yourself. I think that we've been fortunate to have that. I can be like, 'This upset me and I don't understand why somebody would say that about me,' and he gives me great perspective and I can turn around and say the same thing to him. You can't go through your day and not talk to your partner. Ultimately, the person you're going to spend the rest of your life with is going to be your best friend, so why wouldn't they know everything about your life?"

On Nick's ex-wife, Jessica Simpson, who's always in the spotlight.
"The past is the past."
