As much as we want to do not want to admit this, boybands will never be a thing of the past. Many a time, we find ourselves digging our iTunes playlist to find tunes by our favourite boybands. Close the door to the bedroom and dance yourself silly to the silly pop tunes, that about explains what we do when a boyband song comes along. Of course, let’s not talk about the embarrassing posters that we used to put up, with or without those smooch stains.

Guard your heart because One Productions is bringing in the greatest boyband concert of all time, with not just one but three bands that had once rocked your world. We are talking about the evergreen boybands of our youth, Blue, a1 and Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees. They will be performing together on the same stage for on February 28 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. You can say that it is a clash of the bands, but we would rather say that too many cooks can make it work too. Yes, you can go ahead and scream now.

The aged group from A1 are still the boys that they once were. The fans here would definitely not mind the increase in age because after all, we have grown up with them. But one thing their fans should look forward to is their new rendition of their smash hit “Like A Rose,” which arguably is their biggest song in the ears of fans this side of the globe. Member Ben Adams who wrote “Like A Rose” is thrilled to announce their performance of the said version. “We have just updated it for a brand new version for 2012, which was amazingly fun to do! Very excited for you all to hear it!” He recalled, “I wrote it when I was 16 years old on my old upright piano at my parents house. I haven’t told anyone this really as most people assume it’s a love song, but it was actually originally written for my mom!”A1 started making a big splash when their first single, “Be the First to Believe,” entered the UK charts at #6 in early 1999. They had a huge amount of success worldwide with two #1s and eighty top 10 hits. Some of their other hits are “Take On Me”, “Ready or Not / Everytime”, “Same Old Brand New You”, “Caught in the Middle” and “Make It Good”. The band might very well play tunes from their new album which will be released soon under MCA Music, now that would be such a treat bevause we have not heard new music from them for years!

Joining a1 for the February 28 concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium are contemporaries Blue andJeff Timmons, lead vocalist of the now defunct 98 Degrees. Fans can expect for these guys to sing their biggest hits and surprise cuts in the triple-treat concert dubbed The Greatest Hits Tour: Blue, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and a1 – Live in Singapore.

Asked about his favorite 98 Degrees song, Timmons, who has remained faithful to his group’s tracks even as a solo performer, noted, “Out of all the hits, Invisible Man is my favorite. It is the most soulful of our radio songs, and it was the first song we ever heard of ourselves on the radio.”He added, “We recorded ‘I Do’ in Nashville with mega-producer Keith Thomas. I remember being there right after finding out about my ex-wife being pregnant with our daughter.”The group’s unforgettable R&B, soul, urban and contemporary pop sound lives on especially with major hits like “Because of You,” “The Hardest Thing,” and “My Everything.”

The English vocal group Blue comprised of Simon Webbe, Lee Ryan, Duncan James and Antony Costa, is the last to join this concert. They appeared briefly last year for Ion Orchard’s second year anniversary. Performing live for a free concert, the crowd flooded the entire Orchard road to deafening screams. So it is no surprise that the quartet is excited to be back here at the anticipation of fans here in Singapore. They are set to paint the town red by singing live their hits such as “All Rise,” “Too Close,” “If You Come Back,” “Fly By,” “One Love,” “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word,” “Guilty,” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).”

98 Degrees founding member Jeff Timmons admits having mixed feelings about performing again in the Philippines on Saturday, Feb. 25, when he mounts a show with pop vocal group Blue and dance-pop band A1 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“I’m very excited because of the pretty girls,” he told Yahoo! Philippines OMG! in a phone interview.

But he feels jittery, even if it’s his fifth time to perform in the country.

Jeff recalls the first time he went to the Philippines. Jeff and fellow 98 Degrees members Nick and Drew Lachey decided to try out a bar where a house band was performing.

“Everybody in the whole restaurant sings! They were singing Mariah Carey, Cristina Aguilera, everything! I was so nervous! We were sitting in the room and I was so nervous! They know they have talent so they make me all the bit more nervous.”

Jeff’s memory about rehearsing with a Filipino band also makes the butterflies in his stomach fly even faster.

“I’ve been with a Filipino band before,” he recalls. “I had an album called ‘Whisper That Way.’ I was rehearsing with the guys. Everything better than me. I’m nervous. Those guys are the best background singers!”

The butterflies vanish, however, when Jeff sees how much the crowd takes to his music.

“But I also know I’m embraced there, and the group’s embraced there. It’s not that bad a deal for me.”

Filipino back-up band

The guy is not just paying lip service to Filipino talent. Jeff chose a Filipino band to back him up in “The Greatest Hits Tour with Blue, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and A1.” So Jeff is not letting his guard down.

“The promoter tells me there’s supposed to be an extremely talented band and I’m almost nervous (Jeff chose Jay Durias as his musical director),” he admits. “Believe it or not, I’ve performed with Bryan McKnight and Mariah Carey (but) I’m nervous about the Filipino band. The Filipino bands can rock the house!”

Jeff vows to give the fans what they want -- good old 98 Degrees staples like “Invisible Man,” ”I Do (Cherish You)” and “The Hardest Thing,” among others. But he also promises to do “new stuff” he’s crossing his fingers the crowd will enjoy.

Dealing with disappointments

Sure, he’ll feel let down “if I see one sad face in the audience,” if he sings an up tempo jam and “somebody’s not feeling it.”

But Jeff will not back off. He will still give it a shot. At 39 and with two children, the eldest of whom is almost 13, Jeff has learned that disappointed is part of the deal.

“My kids are always disappointed,” he reveals. “They didn’t get the right Nintendo or Wii of whatever. I’m used to that now.”

No wonder Jeff doesn’t let anything bring him down, especially in his music.

“You should believe in yourself. I know it’s a corny cliché. But you gotta believe in yourself and if you’re 100 percent confident you can achieve success.”

That success, he goes on, doesn’t have to spell big bucks.

“I would rather you check out my new stuff and go, ‘Wow!’ I’m kinda feeling this guy!”

That’s why he’s pulling all the stops to get as close to the crowd as he can in his upcoming show in Manila.

“I’ll watch the audience and do what they do. I’ll go down the stage ad interact. I will give it a different flavor. 98 Degrees was very structured.”

Now, they like the Jeff Timmons they see, he will “peddle my music” and strike it out on his own, minus the 98 Degrees tag.

Being on his own

“I think it’s better being on my own,” Jeff muses.

If not, he always has his 98 Degrees background to fall back on.

“For now, it’s Jeff Timmons from 98 Degrees,” he reveals.

Whether or not will be just Jeff Timmons after the Big Dome show is something he is humble enough to leave to the crowd.

After all, a crowd who can make Jeff Timmons nervous must be a crowd worth paying attention to.

Behind every rejuvenated man is a woman.
US pop singer Jeff Timmons, a founding member of the once popular 90s US boy band 98 Degrees, counts wife Amanda as the stabilising force in his life. They first met while she was on holiday in Los Angeles three years ago. They were married the day before Thanksgiving in 2010 and held another wedding in Las Vegas last September.
The couple had a daughter two months ago.
The 38-year-old told The New Paper over the phone from Las Vegas: "We're going to get married again every year.
"When I first talked to Amanda, I was absolutely smitten. At that point, I was very sceptical when it came to love.
"With Amanda it's totally different. I admit I didn't really know what I was doing in my first marriage (to ex-wife Trisha Sperry).
Timmons shares custody of his two children, daughter Alyssa and son Jeffrey Jr, with Sperry.
He gushed: "Amanda's really accepting of all my idiosyncrasies and craziness. It really helps that she's totally into my music as well, because artistes need support, period."
He continued: "For example, in the middle of the night, you might get a surge of creative inspiration and have to get up to get it down on paper, otherwise you'd forget it.
"Amanda understands that and the fact that I won't ever have a nine-to-five job."
From May to September last year, Timmons was a guest star with the Chippendales male song-and-dance strip act, which performs nightly at the Las Vegas Rio Hotel and Casino.
Timmons said: "Amanda was there to see me perform every night. "I was feeling quite shy about being topless on stage, but her attitude could not be more different than mine.
"She really encouraged me to be sexy and spontaneous, and helped me be disciplined enough to stay in shape for the show."
Timmons will perform with British-Norwegian boyband a1 and British boy band Blue on The Greatest Hits Tour concert here next month.
It's the first time Timmons is in Singapore as a solo act.
98 Degrees was last here in 1998 to perform at the Culture Club.
He said: "I've never met either band, but obviously I know them by reputation... I think it will be great performing with them."
Timmon's journey from his 98 Degrees heyday has been long and often painful.
The quartet also comprised brothers Nick and Drew Lachey and Justin Jeffre.
He admitted: "I'd been stumbling, more or less, in the past 10 years.
"When the era of boy bands came to an end in the early 2000s, there was a very big backlash, and 98Degrees got caught up in that, despite the fact that I considered us to be more of a vocal group."
98 Degrees last performed together live in 2001 at Madison Square Garden in New York for the Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special. He said: "We've talked very much about getting back together, but it's difficult to fit everybody's schedules in.
"Nick had become a star (on reality TV show Newlyweds: Nick And Jessica) in 2003, and we were all busy doing our own things. "In fact, between 2004 and 2009, I was doing a whole lot of nothing.
"I wasn't really succeeding musically and I just wasn't in a good place." He added: "The Chippendales gig gave me real confidence. The Greatest Hits Tour is the perfect opportunity. I feel like my identity has evolved. I've got my own distinct sound and writing style.
"I'll definitely be performing a whole lot of 98 Degrees hits (which include I Do, This Gift and My Everything).
"Now that I'm singing solo, I'll just carbon copy Nick, Drew and Justin's voices on stage," he joked.
Timmons nevertheless confessed to having nerves about performing 98 Degrees songs live on stage after so many years.
He said: "Can I carry it on my own? Maybe not like how we used to do it as 98 Degrees, but I'll give it my best shot.
"Blue, a1 and I guarantee a show that will knock the audience's socks off."

Nick Lachey is a happy man. The newly married Sing-Off host talked exclusively to OK! at the ‘Party with a Purpose’ to Benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters sponsored by Tostitos about his upcoming holiday and his future plans with his wife, Vanessa Lachey.

When OK! asked Nick how married life was going, he said he couldn't complain! "It’s awesome. I’ve said this before, it doesn’t feel that dramatically different which I think is a great thing. We were happy before and kind of put a little asterisk on it and said, 'Hey, we’re married now but nothing really changed, which is great.' "

Any kids in the future? Of course!

"I think kids definitely yes," Nick told OK!. "I think it’s the next step for she and I, but at this point we’re really enjoying married and that will come when it’s meant to come and until then, we’re enjoying being newlyweds."

What are their plans for the upcoming holidays? "We’ll be in Cincinnati." "Yeah, niece and nephew and watching kids open presents, yeah, it’s special so we’re looking forward to that."

SheKnows caught up with recording artist and TV personality Nick Lachey to chat about his work with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, his new solo album, his plans for the holidays and the possibility of kids with wife Vanessa Minnillo.

Television personality and multi-platinum recording artist Nick Lachey recently joined Tostitos to kick off the college football bowl game season in New York's Times Square. The Sing-Offhost was joined by former college and professional football greats for the "Party with a Purpose" event which benefited Big Brothers Big Sisters; an organization very special to Lachey. For the past eight years, he has been a "Big Brother" in Los Angeles and has had the same "little" who is now 15 years old.
We caught up with Lachey to talk about his brand-new album, the possibility of kids with wifeVanessa Minnillo and how he first got involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
How excited were you to be a part of the "Party with a Purpose" event?
The Fiesta in the Square sponsored by Tostitos is benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, which is an organization that I've been a part of for about eight years now. I've been a Big Brother so it's something I really believe in and have seen firsthand how impactful it can be in shaping the lives of young people. So I was very excited when they called me and asked me to be a part of it.
How did you first get involved with the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization?
They'd asked me to be the spokesperson for their centennial event about eight years ago and I said that I'd love to but that I wanted to learn more about the organization and so that's when I started to get involved and became a Big Brother and have been a Big Brother ever since.
For people not familiar with Big Brothers Big Sisters, can you explain what the organization strives to do for young people across the country?
Well, what it does is it pairs an adult with a young person who may be in need of some extra mentoring and guidance. In my case, my little brother's father had passed away when he was a baby and he didn't really have a male role model in his life, so his mom signed him up for the program. It's basically about being a big brother, being a friend, being a support-system, showing these young people that someone really genuinely cares for them, is there for them and kind of being a guiding force for them. I've seen firsthand how impactful it can be and how fantastic the results can be and as a Big I can also say it's probably the most gratifying thing that I've ever done in my life. I often joke that I get more out of it than my Little does and I think that's probably true.
Is it true you're working on a new solo album?
Yeah, I'm working on it right now, I'm going to finish it up the beginning of next year hopefully by the end of February and it will come out in summer. It's called, The Soundtrack of My Life. It's a concept album, it's taking songs from movies that were meaningful to me and meaningful as I grew up and covering songs from those movies so I'm pretty excited about finishing that up and getting it out there.

Are you and Vanessa Minnillo planning on having children anytime soon?
I think we both definitely want a family and I don't think there's any timetable necessarily for that. We're just enjoying being newlyweds and certainly that will come when the time's right; it's definitely something we look forward to at some point.
The Sing-Off has become a very popular singing competition on TV. Will you return next year as the host?
I certainly hope so -- it's been a lot of fun to be a part of that and to watch that show grow. A lot of days it doesn't even feel like work. It's just so much fun to be around all these talented people and to share that experience with them, so we certainly hope it comes back next year. And if so, I hope I get a chance to host it again.
What are your plans during the holidays?
For us it's really just about being with family so we're going to be in Cincinnati where my family is and hang out with the niece and nephew; watch them open some gifts and just enjoy family time.

Boy bands to unite in special Manila concert

MEMBERS of top-selling boy groups Blue, 98 Degrees and A1 will join forces to perform in a special one-night concert at the Araneta Coliseum on Feb. 25 next year.

The show is called "The Greatest Hits Tour: Blue, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees, and A1: Live in Manila 2012."

In an interview to promote the concert, Mr. Timmons said: "I know Manila fairly well. I love pancit and other foods from that area. The jeepney’s crack me up, and the traffic and mega malls are bananas. The people are amazing. They treated us like kings, always greeted with "Hi, Sir," and "Thank you, Sir." They only talk like that in some parts of the US."

Fans of 98 Degrees will not see the whole group performing. Yet, that should not matter much as its unforgettable R&B, soul, urban and contemporary pop sound lives on through Mr. Timmons, its founding member.

He is sure to sing many of their hits like "Invisible Man," "Because of You," "The Hardest Thing," "I Do (Cherish You)," and "My Everything," among others.

Right in the middle of Times Square, Nick, former NFL running back Eddie George, former NFL kickers Bill and Martin Gramatica, Rodney Peete and more attempted to set the Guinness World record for most field goals made in six consecutive hours.
As a part of the event, Tostitos pledged $100,000 to BBBS.
"It's the ultimate party with a purpose," said Nick who has been involved with BBBS for close to eight years.

Hundreds of NFL fans line up to attempt a kick at history

Even NFL legends struggle to kick the ball through the uprights.

Jim Kelly, Rodney Peete, Antonio Pierce, Eddie George and the kicking Gramaticas -- Bill and Martin -- gathered with football fans in Times Square Friday afternoon to kick off the college bowl game season with Tostitos' "party with a purpose" to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City.

The former NFL players began a six-hour challenge to make at least 100 20-yard field-goal attempts in an effort to raise money and set a Guinness world record. As part of the event, Tostitos donated $100,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters. The donation was doubled when 181 kicks were made by the deadline.

"The amount of money you can raise if we make that 100th kick, you can affect a ton of lives in a positive way," said Martin Gramatica, who booted 155 field goals during his six-year NFL career. "And for us to be a part of that, it's awesome."

George was the only former NFL player to make a field goal on the first try, while Martin needed three attempts to succesfully kick the ball through the uprights, blaming his rust on a three-year hiatus from the football field. Peete blamed his misses on the absence of a place-holder before Kelly kneeled to assist him on a successful try.

“This is for all the Tostitos!” each player said before winding up. Luckily, a BCS national championship wasn’t on the line.

Once the pros successfully made their field goals after multiple misses, the fans to stepped up to the tee.

Some volunteer kickers aimed for the uprights and nailed the net behind the goal post. Others aimed at the uprights and nailed the referees signaling 'no good' underneath the goal post.

But aside from the shanks and splits, the event's cause overshadowed the potential record.

"Big Brothers Big Sisters, we need that now more than ever with all that's going on with our kids, the things that are going on with abuse," said George, a four-time Pro Bowl running back with the Titans. "We need people out here who have the best interest of the kids at heart versus their own agendas. Kicking field goals for a cause is tremendous. And you break a record on top of that."

Hundreds of people lined the cage outside the regulation-size end zone parked on Military Island for their attempt to help make history.

"When you see the kids and you talk to the kids, you understand how important it is for them to associate with someone who can give them an uplifting word and some encouragement," Kelly said.

Nick Lachey isn't proud of it but he speaks the truth."This year, it's been a catastrophic breakdown of my body," said the 38-year-old Lachey, who rose to fame in boy band 98 Degrees then became an actor. "I had to see the doctor about a pinched nerve in my neck. I have all these aches. I'm totally breaking down."

Nick Lachey kicked 2 of 3 field goals in NYC Friday afternoon.But that didn't stop Lachey from showing up in midtown Manhattan on Friday afternoon, along with football greats Jim Kelly, Rodney Peete, Eddie George, Antonio Pierce and the Gramatica brothers as part of the Tostitos Fiesta in the Square to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters.Taking place in the heart of New York City, the celebration converted the Times Square Military Island into a regulation-size college football end zone, where fans were helping set a Guinness World Record for the most people to kick successful field goals in six hours.

As part of the event, the Tostitos brand will donate $100,000 to BBBS. If the record is set, the Tostitos will double that amount."I'm having a blast out here. We're going to set this record and get that extra money. We got really lucky with the weather," said Lachey, who is serving as party host. "It's great to see everyone here to help with this great cause."Lachey had always been around sports before moving into the entertainment industry. He even studied sports medicine at Miami (Ohio) University.

So after playing basketball and baseball, kicking a football through the uprights shouldn't be that hard, right?"It's harder than it looks. Granted, I did a little preparation before coming to New York," Lachey said. "I didn't make a complete fool of myself. I made 2-of-3. That's pretty respectable."And after this event, Lachey and his 31-year-old wife, Vanessa Minnillo, will head back to Cincinnati to celebrate the holidays and watch his favorite Cincinnati sports. Technically, he's still in the honeymoon period with his wife of less than six months."She keeps me young, or she's aging me even quicker. I'm not really sure," Lachey said. "And we'll be in Cincinnati, the sports mecca of the world! After the great season the Bengals have had, we consider them already having won the Super Bowl."
