Nick and Vanessa donate their time to end hunger

SOURCE

December 21, 2010

Thanks so much to Feeding America Entertainment Council member, Nick Lachey, and fiancée, Vanessa Minnillo. As part of The Biggest Loser Pound For Pound Challenge, the couple joined me at the Freestore Foodbank in Nick’s hometown of Cincinnati, OH, to volunteer and interact with some cooks-in-training. Cincinnati Cooks!, a program at the Freestore Food Bank, is a free ten-week program that prepares students, looking to improve their lives, for work in the food service industry. Professional cooks work with students to teach them culinary techniques, along with job and life skills. The goal is to help students succeed both in the kitchen and in their personal lives.

When asked who the better cook is in their relationship, Nick said, “We have a flawless system. She does all the cooking, and I do all the clean up.”

But both Nick and Vanessa had the opportunity to sharpen their kitchen skills. Chef Marcus, a former student-turned-professional chef, taught Nick and Vanessa proper knife skills, and current students showed them how to whip up a nutritious stir-fry. In addition to feeding the students and Freestore Foodbank employees each day, the food prepared at Cincinnati Cooks! also benefits Kids Cafe programs, which provide free, hot, after-school meals to children who might otherwise go hungry outside of school.

As Nick and Vanessa interacted with students, they made sure to encourage nutritious food choices. As obesity is a rising issue in the United States, programs like the Pound For Pound Challenge are great ways to promote a healthy lifestyle. For every pound you pledge to lose, the Pound For Pound Challenge will donate 11¢ to Feeding America — enough to secure one pound of groceries on behalf of local food banks. Not only are you pledging to keep up a healthy lifestyle, but you’re also helping those Americans who do not always have access to food.

Nick Holiday Plans

Nick Lachey has had one big year between his hit TV series The Sing-Off, which is coming back for a second season, and his recent engagement to Vanessa Minnillo. "This is like a banner year for you!" Rachael notes.

"It's been a fun year!" Nick says. "But 2011? We're probably going to hold the wedding, so, you know, next year's only going to get better!" They'll ring in the new year from one of Rach's favorite locations. "We're going to be in Tuscany for New Year's," he says. "I hear you are the resident expert!" Rachael is thrilled they have chosen Italy, where she got married to John, and offers to set them up with some restaurants and activities. "I've got a long list for you guys!"

But before they head overseas, Nick and Vanessa will celebrate Christmas with family, which means Nick has some shopping to do. "I'm the guy literally on the 21st [on a plane] with the Sky Mall magazine," he says. "I'm terrible with it!" So what is he getting for his fiancée? "Is this bad form? I got her a nice ring. Have I got to get her something else?" he asks. Rach informs that him that he does and jokes, "You are on the naughty list!" He says he'll write Vanessa a song and Rach revises her statement. "You're back on the nice list." She then asks him to give a sample of his favorite Christmas carol - tune in for his duet with Rach!

Nick Lachey Dishes On Engagement & Relationship Details With Vanessa Minnillo

SOURCE

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Nick Lachey is beaming about his recent engagement to fiancee Vanessa Minnillo.

“I think that we have a great relationship. the good thing about our situation is that we kind of took our time with it. We’ve been together four and half years, so it’s just, the right thing at the right time for us,” Nick told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Access Hollywood Live on Monday, when asked about his November engagement to his longtime girlfriend.

The pair began dating in 2006 (in the wake of Nick’s highly-publicized divorce from his first wife, Jessica Simpson), after Vanessa starred in the former 98 Degrees singer’s music video for “What’s Left of me.” the couple split in June 2009, but rekindled their romance in August (2009? or 2010?) – a break that Nick said was beneficial for them.

“We took a break for a little while there… I think that’s a healthy thing sometimes, when you’re kind of going through the growing process,” Nick continued. “The way I’ve always looked at it is, if you come out on the other side and you’ve learned something and you can kind of apply it to the next time that situation comes up, then you’re growing as a couple, and that’s what exciting to me. If you continue to grow as a couple, then you’re in good shape.”

As for popping the question, Nick waited for the right moment to ask for his future bride’s hand.

“We had a great evening, a great day, it just seemed like the right time,” he told Billy and Kit. “It was a romantic moment, a perfect moment, and she said, ‘Yes,’ so that was the most important part.”

The pair have not yet revealed when they plan to wed, but the host of NBC’s “The Sing-Off” is sure of one wedding day detail.

“I think I’ll leave the singing to someone else,” Nick said.

Nick Lachey Learns It's Important to Like Your Wife's Parents

SOURCE
By Rob Shuter

Nick Lachey isn't just looking forward to spending the rest of his life with soon-to-be wife, Vanessa Minnillo -- after an awful experience with ex father-in-law, Joe Simpson, Nick is excited to marry into a "normal" family.

"Vanessa's folks are so amazing," a friend of the future Mrs. Lachey tells me. "They are not parents who live through their daughter's success; they're not desperate to find a place for themselves in the entertainment business. They are simply parents who just want their daughter to be happy."
Vanessa's father, Vince Minnillo, was a member of the U.S. Air Force, stationed in the Philippines; he's a guy Nick respects so much he asked permission for his daughter's hand before popping the question to Vanessa herself.

"It's going to be a small, intimate wedding with just close friends and family," an insider tells me. "They would like it to be as private a day as possible." Unlike his first marriage to Jessica Simpson, where pictures and details were given to all media outlets, whether they wanted them or not.

"This time around there will be no reality show cameras or creepy father/managers lurking around making decisions on what is best for the couple's careers rather than their future," my source says. "Nick will once again take a back seat, but this time around it will be to his bride, not his father-in-law."

Nick Lachey And Vanessa Minnillo Visit Children’s Hospital

Nick Lachey & Vanessa Minnillo salute Tyler St. Clair's girlfriend at Children's Hospital Medical Center Tuesday.

I’m told you’ll see this on the People magazine website tomorrow…. but you can read it here and see it on YouTube. Nick Lachey and fiancee Vanessa Minnillo Tuesday visited the Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center Tuesday. They brought gifts for each patient they met. On the YouTube video, they do a special salute with patient Tyler St. Clair for his girlfriend Libby in the Delta Gamma sorority at the University of Kentucky.

The visit was arranged by the Dragonfly Foundation,a [501(c)(3) Pending] organization determined to bring moments of comfort and joy to kids who are being treated for cancer and other blood diseases. The foundation currently is working in partnership with the Cancer & Blood Diseases Institute of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center to provide distractions that will help ease the pain and fear these children and their families experience on a daily basis.

The Sing-Off

On The Sing-Off's Season 2 premiere, the 10 competing groups took on modern hits like Justin Bieber's "Baby" and oldies such as the Drifters' "Save the Last Dance For Me." But there's still one group that Nick Lachey wants to see get the a cappella treatment.

"I keep waiting for a 98 Degrees song to be covered because I just feel like that's well overdue," the show's host tells TVGuide.com. "The way that these songs are done is fairly unconventional and done in ways that you wouldn't expect."

5 Things to Know About the New Season of The Sing-Off

Whether any of the contestants dare to pull from the 98 Degrees catalog remains to be seen, but maybe Lachey himself will take on one of the boy band's big hits on The Sing-Off's live finale. "I've heard a rumor that I may sing a little bit on the finale ... we'll see if that pans out," he says.

See what Lachey has to say about Season 2's changes and talent level in this video:

Nick Lachey: Upcoming Wedding Will 'Be About Vanessa'

SOURCE

Nick Lachey: Upcoming Wedding Will 'Be About Vanessa' | Nick Lachey, Vanessa Minnillo
They're not in the planning phase yet, but Nick Lachey says that when he and Vanessa Minnillo begin to think about their wedding, he expects to take a backseat.

"I want it to be about her," Lachey tells PEOPLE. "Any guy will tell you that it's probably more about the bride than the groom. It's just about celebrating your love for each other."

Lachey, 37, met Minnillo, 30, four years ago while filming a music video for his song "What's Left of Me," and, according to him, the two instantly connected. "She's my soulmate in every way," he gushes. "She gets me, I get her. We enjoy a lot of the same things and we enjoy each other's company."

One of the things they share is a love of music, which comes in handy, since Lachey is not only a singer, but starting Dec. 6 he will be hosting NBC's Sing Off competition, too.

"[Vanessa] is an incredible host – that's what she's done for years – so I get a lot of advice from her," he says.

In between episodes, the newly engaged couple will also head to Lachey's hometown of Cincinnati, where they will visit the Cincinnati Zoo and the Cincinnati Children's Hospital for philanthropic reasons. They'll also spend time with Lachey’s brother, Drew, and his wife and kids.

"It's great being an uncle," Lachey says. "Vanessa and I try to spoil them every chance we get!"

Playing St. Nick to the little ones also has Lachey thinking about his own future – and how much he wants kids of his own.

"I'm pushing 40 here, so the time is probably imminent," he says. "Everything happens in the right time and for now, it's good training to be an uncle. Hopefully mine will turn out as good as [Drew's]!"

In the meantime, Lachey is excited to be engaged to the love of his life. "She’s a great girl," he says. "She's incredibly intelligent, incredibly personable. She's independent, yet supportive. I'm extremely happy that she's mine."

Nick Lachey: Season 2 of ‘The Sing-Off’ Hits All The Right Notes

SOURCE

by Sean Daly

Newly engaged Nick Lachey is leaving the wedding plans to fiancée Vanessa Minnillo.

“I am allowed to help, but at the end of the day, I really want it to be primarily her influence on things,” he told us. “So I will be very supportive and agreeable, but probably not doing too much planning.”

Lachey, 36, has other things to keep him busy.

On Monday, her returns as host of ‘The Sing-Off’ – a five night singing contest for the top a cappella groups in America.

He couldn’t be happier to have rocker Ben Folds, Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman manning the judges table.

“I like being able to be objectively supportive of everybody,” he said. “That is how I see my role. Not having to make the tough choices is ultimately rewarding for me.”

Lachey also opened up about…

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM SEASON 2: “The one thing that will jump out at people right away is that we have gone from 8 to 10 groups. And we have gone from 4 to 5 episodes. The other thing is that the talent is just phenomenal. Even more so than in season one.”

LAST YEAR’S WINNER, NOTA: “They are in the process of releasing their first album right now. I remember those days, getting ready to promote on your first record. It is an exciting time.”

WHO MAKES THE CALL: “The judges determine who moves on in each episode. And as we get down to the final episode, the phone lines open and America votes. The last episode is live on December 20.”

HOSTING ON LIVE TV: “I actually prefer it. There is a little added pressure and the extra adrenaline. But you get one shot at it, you know. Let’s see what you’ve got. Certainly, you know, things don’t go as planned and you have to improvise. But I did theatre growing up, so I think there is something cool about ‘let’s go out there and do out best.’”

MISSING THE GOOD ‘OLE DAYS: “It is a contagious atmosphere to be around. If you are a singer or performer you cant help but want to be out there doing what they are doing. When I saw Nota win last year, it really brought back memories of getting that first record deal and thinking you are on the cusp of making it finally. It is refreshing to see that in these people. They are all striving for their dreams.”

MAKING MORE MUSIC: “I parted ways with Jive Records. The music business has gone through so many changes in the last year that this is actually a very exciting time to be on your own and be independent. So now I am my own record label. There are no rules. I have been in the studio for the last couple of months starting to work on a new project.”

A 98 DEGREES REUNION: “I definitely think I would like it. It is one of those things we have always kept the door wide open on. Certainly we have all gone on and done other things, but we have always kept that as an option. Right now there is no imminent plans, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one day that came true.”

NBC's "The Sing-Off" returns tonight with another round of a cappella groups singing their hearts out and vying for a Sony Music recording contract and a $100,000 cash prize. As with last year's inaugural competition, the host is singer/actor Nick Lachey along with the returning three judges - singer Ben Folds, R&B singer and former Boyz II Men member Shawn Stockton and Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger.

This time around, however, the competition is closed off to only include U.S. groups but there will be 10 groups in the beginning (instead of eight last year) and the show has expanded from four episodes to five. Two-hour installments air Monday and Wednesday at 8:00/7:00c this week and next with the live finale airing on Monday, December 20th at 8:00/7:00c. Our Jim Halterman caught up with Lachey recently to talk about what's to come in this cycle of "The Sing Off" and what else he's up to in his busy career.
